2021 World Championship Team Break Down

PEACE
League of Legends Circut Oceania (OCE)
10-11 (5th)

Much like the representatives of Brazil, it is difficult to put a finger on how this squad will perform. Obviously compared to some of the bigger competition we have a decent sense of how they will play but against competition of their own level it can be trickier to guess. OCE as a region has been abandoned by Riot games so as a whole, their teams have looked weaker than in the past. In fact, the MSI representatives from the region lost nearly every game they played in. My assumption is that we can expect the same out of this very streaky team. After going 10-4 in the first split of 2021 PEACE lost to PGG in the finals. Leading into the second split PEACE struggled even more only reaching 10-11 in the triple round robin but ended up putting together a strong playoffs push and win the LCO. For this review I will only be looking at their playoffs roster, as it will be the most likely one they will utilize for the tournament, though it should be noted that they have role swapped and have three bench players that have been used in Split 2.

TOP: Apii: It is reasonable to say that, at least in their playoff run, Apii was PEACE’s weakest performer, but even still manages a 4+ KDA through 14 games. Apii will most likely not be the flashiest player you can pick up for the role but where I think he may add value is his ability to stablize a lane and then be relevant in the late game. PEACE can draft him into less that ideal situations and he seemed less than phased by it and that is important in the play-in stages when you face teams like Cloud9 and  Hanwah Life Esports.

JUNGLE: Babip: Babip is an aggressive jungler which I think will have huge value against some of the lower tier teams in the play-in stage. He is aggressive and will sacrifice gold and experience from his jungle pathing to ensure his carries get the attention they need to win. With a 9.1 KDA And a 76% team kill participation rate, I think you could steal some lobbies picking Babip on slates where he isn’t into the hardest competition.

MID: Tally: A rather uninspiring mid laner I would say Tally does bring some things to the table. This top laner turned mid has a lot of experience dueling and knowing how to make effective trades. The issue for him is the tracking of enemy junglers and side lanes when he goes in for these trades. He only picked up mid for the LCO playoffs (he played top during the regular split) and that will get exploited by top tier players like Chovy and Perkz. I could see him having one or two decent games but on the whole I would expect him to struggle.

ADC: Violet: This is the carry folks. This is the player you should have your eyes on for this team. He had 66 kills in 14 games (almost 5 kills a game average) and has an almost 30% damage share for his team. The bot lane of PEACE is pretty solid and has never really been a serious point of worry for this team. I worry that in a tournament like this though, top tier teams will focus on taking them out of a game and force PEACE to win elsewhere. If this transpires I think PEACE will find themselves in trouble and unable to scratch out wins.

SUPPORT: Aladoric: Aladoric has one real speed and it is fast. He loves playing the playmaker/initiation style champions and I love that. As a playstyle I think it gives PEACE more agency in a lane they have to win to find success but also for your DFS games you can find him racking up serious points through assists. This overaggression can be punished by more technically sound teams, so Aladoric may struggle against Cloud9 and DFM, but may exceed expectations into teams like UOL and HLE.

PEACE has a huge responsibility as they carry the banner of OCE and the passion that their fanbase carries for their teams. 2021 has shown us that PEACE can be at the top of the league when they are on their game but one of the weakest teams when they aren’t. Planning on picking up players to your lineup from PEACE will have to hinge on who they are facing that day. PEACE will be must watch in terms of fast and loose play but I would say they are one of my least likely to move on teams in the play-in rounds.
