Top Tier

Max Scherzer, SP WAS - Scherzer was lit up for seven earned runs over 3.2 innings in his last start which came against these Padres but he also had seven strikeouts. He was hurt by a grand slam hit by the Padres relief pitcher of all people. I am going to call that an outlier and take a shot on a rebound outing here from Max who posted a 2.66  ERA and a 0.88 WHIP while striking out 134 over 98 innings before the break.

Zack Wheeler, SP PHI - What a start Wheeler has had to his season eh? 2.26 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP while having struck out 145 over 119.2 innings. He has one start against Miami this season and he tossed seven scoreless innings while striking out 10. He is the cash game lock.

Mid-Tier

Sonny Gray, SP CIN -  When healthy Gray has been pretty solid this season, posting a 3.19 ERA with 80 strikeouts over 62 innings pitched. He has faced the Reds twice this season, once throwing three shutout innings and the other allowing three runs over six. Either way, I like the price and the upside he brings to the table given that strikeout ability.

Hyun Jin Ryu, SP TOR - I know we saw Ryu at $7,500 on DK two starts prior but for the majority of this season he has been in the mid-to-high $8,000 price range so getting him here again at $7,600 feels like a shot worth taking. No doubt he has struggled a bit over his last few starts but the Blue Jays are big favorites here and there is some swing and miss in this Rangers lineup. I'm not expecting perfection but we don't need that for this price. Toss a quality start and get the win and we are solid.

Rich Hill, SP TB - Innings is really the only worry I have here, well, that and the Braves have some good bats against southpaws but they no longer have Acuna. Hill has been solid, posting a 3.38 ERA over his last 10 starts. He has 46 strikeouts over 53.1 innings during that stretch of time. Atlanta has the 10th highest strikeout rate against southpaws this season at 24.1%. IF we can get six innings from Hill today he will be more than worth the cost.

Value

Drew Smyly, SP ATL - Tampa has the third highest strikeout rate against LHP this season at a crazy 27.2%. They also rank 29th in average, 28th in wOBA and 29th in OPS against lefties. All of this is good news for Drew Smyly who is 5-0 with a 2.75 ERA over his last seven starts while striking out 31 over 36 innings.
