For the second part of the split slate today we have eight games on the docket. There are no real weather concerns either except of course if you’re an MLB pitcher today with hot temps and winds blowing out at most parks, it could be a big-time hitting day. Winds are blowing out at Dodger Stadium, Buffalo (Toronto), Atlanta, and New York, as well as San Fran but that matters less because of the stadium design.

Top Tier

Jose Altuve, 2B HOU - Altuve has been hot recently, as has the whole of the Astros’ offense, and now they’re facing Jordan Lyles on the bump. Against RHPs, Altuve has nine homers and a .350 wOBA while Lyles has allowed RHHs to post a .382 wOBA against him. Leading off against a pitcher throwing meatballs of late is a good spot for Altuve.

Austin Riley, 3B ATL - Riley is in the top tier of pricing on DK but in the budget level on FD. Against righties this year, Riley has already posted 10 homers and Richards hasn’t exactly been a lock down starter allowing over a .770 OPS to both handedness of hitter as well as over a .340 wOBA to both too. Riley for his part also hits well at home and with the wind blowing out as well as mid-80s temps the ball should be carrying well at Truist Park.

Nelson Cruz, OF MIN - Cruz is facing a lefty. That’s it. Seriously, what more do you need? Okay, fine here’s more proof. He’s hitting .377 with a .449 wOBA against southpaws compared to a .298 average and .387 wOBA overall this year. On the road, Cruz has also hit .352 with a .429 wOBA and Sheffield isn’t exactly lighting things up at home on the mound. Cleanup against a lefty means Cruz will be cleaning up all night.

Mid-Tier

D.J. LeMahieu, 1B/2B NYY - The Yankees offense has been the source of a lot of conversation and scorn this season but tonight is a good night to at least get a piece of it. LeMahieu is 7-for-19 off of Ross Stripling in previous meetings. While it’s been a struggle this year for LeMahieu in the box, he’s still posted a .308 wOBA against RHPs and this righty has allowed a .910 OPS to RHHs. Throw in that it’s a Triple-A park and the wind is blowing out and now is the time to take a shot on LeMahieu.

Cedric Mullins, OF BAL - How is he still in this price range? He’s legitimately been one of the best hitters in baseball all season. I get he’s facing the buzzy Aaron Civale on the mound who has been solid this year, but Mullins has taken him deep twice in three previous meetings and overall against RHPs, Mullins has seven homers and a .404 wOBA. Civale for his part has allowed an OPS over .720 against LHHs and a .311 wOBA. The leadoff spot against a hittable pitcher that he’s done well against previously and in the mid-tier? Why not play Mullins.

Jake Fraley, OF SEA - Fraley has been very good in his return to the Seattle lineup and he’s been smoking RHPs with a .482 wOBA and four homers. Bailey Ober has been smoked by LHHs for his part with a .610 wOBA compared to a .224 mark versus righties. There’s also the chance for a steal too as he has four steals in just 55 at-bats on the year.

Value Bats

Andrew McCutchen, OF PHI - The Dodgers are running out Clayton Kershaw on the mound so why is anyone from the Phillies in this coach? Well McCutchen has a good matchup. He’s 11-for-39 with a homer and a .317 wOBA against the Dodgers’ lefties. Speaking of lefties, McCutchen has seven homers and a .427 wOBA against them this year while Kershaw has been hittable by righties with a .304 wOBA and around .700 OPS allowed to them. Also the Phillies aren’t striking out recently either.

Josh Rojas, 2B ARI (FD Only) - Rojas is $3,900 on DK but just $2,400 on FD while being the likely lead off hitter for the Diamondbacks, who did come to life last night with eight runs. Rojas is putting up solid numbers against RHPs with six homers and a .345 wOBA so far and he’s hit well on the road as well. Meanwhile Anthony Desclafani has allowed a 4.66 ERA at home and he’s been hit well by left-handed hitters as well with a .311 wOBA allowed. This could be a high-scoring game tonight with these two pitchers so also look at Brandon Crawford for the Giants too.
