There are only two more Mondays in the MLB regular season after today and as always it is a shorter slate. We have seven games on the docket today, and it isn’t really the strongest slate when it comes to starting pitching. There certainly are enough options to fill out your roster with quality whether you are playing on FanDuel, Yahoo, or when you need two pitchers on DraftKings. There are a couple of opportunities to save salary on pitching and still be able to feel fairly confident so let’s get right to today’s options for you to choose from.

Top Tier

Sandy Alcantara, MIA – He is on an absolute roll right now and is my favorite play of the day. He has allowed more than two earned runs just once in the last six starts and has had double digit strikeouts in three of the last four times he has taken the mound. The Nationals have been winning some games and scoring some runs lately, but if you look at the lineup there isn’t much to be afraid of outside of Juan Soto. There are few pitchers that are hotter right now than the Marlins ace.

Adam Wainwright, STL – 40-year-old Uncle Charlie just keeps getting it done. He has 15 wins and he has allowed more than two earned runs just once in the last five weeks. He isn’t an elite strikeout pitcher, but he still has five or more whiffs in eight of his last 11 starts. The Mets just had a hard fought, emotional weekend against the Yankees where they actually scored a good number of runs. However, on the season they have the third fewest runs in the National League and are hitting just .238 against right-handed pitchers.

Mid-Tier

Zac Gallen, ARI – It is a tough matchup against the Dodgers, but Gallen did pitch well against them on July 30th allowing just two runs over six innings and struck out eight. Gallen has allowed just six runs in his last four starts and has struck out six or more in six of his last eight outings. He has pitched at Dodger Stadium twice in his career and has allowed just one earned run in 12.1 innings with 12 strikeouts. Los Angeles has hit just .242 against right-handed pitching, and Gallen is a solid bet to have a good outing.

Jake Odorizzi, HOU – He is also not an elite strikeout pitcher, but Odorizzi has been dealing over the last month. He has allowed more than two earned runs just once in the last six times to the bump and has struck out five or more in three of his last four starts. The Rangers are hitting just .231 as a team all season long and only the Pirates have scored fewer runs in all of baseball. Odorizzi pitched against the Rangers on August 27th and allowed just two earned runs and struck out five over five innings. He is a great option for your second starter on DraftKings.

Value Tier

Drew Rasmussen, TB – His issue is going deep enough into games to pick up a win, but Rasmussen has been good since being put in the rotation. He has allowed just four earned runs in his five starts, but also hasn’t pitched five innings in two of them. He hasn’t allowed a home run in a start, including games against the Red Sox three times and the Phillies once. That is two games in Fenway and one in Philadelphia which are both hitter’s parks. So, while the Blue Jays are a great lineup, he has held down good lineups before. He doesn’t rack up the strikeouts but he is a great bet to pitch well and not blow up and give you negative points if you want to save money on your second pitcher.
