We have a two-game NHL DFS slate today for the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs. Sebastian Aho and the Carolina Hurricanes take on Adam Fox and the New York Rangers in the first game of the night. Then it's Johnny Gaudreau and the Calgary Flames taking on Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers for the nightcap. You can build daily fantasy hockey lineups on DraftKings, FanDuel, and Yahoo Fantasy for Tuesday, May 24th NHL playoffs action. Before you build those NHL daily fantasy lineups, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS projections, the NHL Value Finder, and the NHL DFS lineup generator. Let's now take a closer look at the daily fantasy hockey top plays for tonight's NHL DFS main slate.

Carolina Hurricanes at New York Rangers

While the Hurricanes didn’t score many goals in Game 1, it wasn’t for a lack of trying. We saw Vincent Trocheck, Andrei Svechnikov, Max Domi, and Teuvo Teravainen all put four shots or more on goal and we are still seeing nice values on all of those players. Trocheck, Svechnikov, and Teravainen, in particular, all play nearly 20 minutes each night. I also wouldn’t forget about Sebastian Aho, who is capable of having big nights, and Martin Necas, who played nearly 18 minutes for the Hurricanes on Sunday. For the Rangers, it was their top-line that was able to break through with Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad both scoring goals. Don’t forget about Ryan Strome and Artemi Panarin either. They aren’t seeing as many minutes as Zibanejad and Kreider, but that is because they don’t kill penalties.

We didn't see much from the Hurricanes' defensemen on Sunday, with Brendan Smith being the sole point-getter and no one having a significant number of shots or blocked shots. I still believe that you can get value from Tony DeAngelo with his power-play time and offensive skills and, with Jaccob Slavin playing big minutes, he is someone worth looking at as he will typically block shots and chip in some points too. For the Rangers, we did see a big game from Adam Fox and Jacob Trouba. Fox had an assist and a shot on goal with five blocked shots while Trouba also had an assist, two shots, and two blocked shots. We are seeing big minutes from Ryan Lindgren and K’Andre Miller as well, but neither is providing you with a large quantity of stats.

It looks like Frederik Andersen will make his 2022 playoff debut today for the Hurricanes. He should be well-rested, but also potentially rusty as he hasn’t played since April 16th. Igor Shesterkin is coming off a fantastic performance on Sunday giving up just one goal on 44 shots. I would be looking to go back to Shesterkin in this game as he could very well see a similar volume of shots.

Calgary Flames at Edmonton Oilers

The Flames didn’t have the Game 1 that many expected of them. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl dominated, with a combined seven points, while Evander Kane added a hat-trick for the Oilers. Zach Hyman has also been quietly excellent for Edmonton in this series, as he added another goal and seven shots last game. For the Flames, Matthew Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau remain the primary targets as they are the most likely to give you shots and points. I wouldn’t expect the Oilers to keep them quiet for an extended period.

For all of the goals that the Oilers have been scoring, their defense didn’t have a single point in Game 3. What they did do though was block a lot of shots. Duncan Keith, Cody Ceci, and Tyson Barrie each blocked three shots. Barrie also added five shots, which made him a really nice value play, but it's not a performance I’m certain he will replicate. We also didn’t see much from the Flames' back end, but at their cost, I don’t mind Rasmus Andersson or Noah Hanifin.

While you can make the case for playing Mike Smith after a great performance in the last game, it is still a play that comes with some risk, given Smith’s history of uneven performances. You can likely get better value from Jacob Markstrom, who should bounce back after a poor performance.
