Wow, it’s already nearing the end of July. This season has passed in the blink of an eye! The trade deadline is nearing and we have an 11-game slate today loaded with value bats! I also take a deep dive for a pitcher on DraftKings where they are nearly paying you to roster him! Risky? Absolutely, but could be worth it, especially with the abundance of expensive stacks that should be profitable today.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at today’s Value Vault!

Both Sites

Alex Verdugo (L), OF BOS ($2,800 FD/$3,200 DK) - German’s numbers are worse against righties, but Verdugo is a good way to get a part of the Boston lineup today. He’s hitting .312 with a .383 wOBA against right-handers in 2021 and against German specifically, he’s 2-for-5 with a home run! German has a 4.57 ERA on the road this season, and opponents hit .280 against him away from Yankee Stadium.

Jarren Duran (L), OF BOS ($2,500 FD/$2,600 DK) - Another Boston bat! Yes, you can stack Boston today. He’s Duran’s numbers against righties aren’t overwhelming, but all he does is produce. Through six big league games, he’s hit safely in three of them, but he’s scored a run or brought someone across the plate in five of those six. He should be in a good spot today to cross the plate or bring some teammates across, so I like these two lefties in any Boston stack today.

FanDuel

Giancarlo Stanton (R), OF NYY ($3,400 FD) - Same game, different team! Stanton is 4-for-10 with two home runs against Boston’s Martín Pérez (L) and the Boston southpaw has served up a .294 average and .353 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season. Perez has a .580 ERA in 11 home starts this year and he has a 7.04 ERA over his last two appearances (7.2 IP) in total. Stanton is going yard today. Book it.

Carlos Correa (R), SS HOU ($3,000 FD) - To save Dane Dunning (R)’s arm, they aren’t throwing him today, and are trotting out Taylor Hearn (L) instead. Fire up those Houston right-handed bats! Correa might be 0-for-3 against him for his career, but here’s what you need to know. Correa is hitting .286 off southpaws this year and Hearn has allowed righties to hit .281 with a .386 wOBA. Correa has homered once every 16.5 at-bats in his home park, and has a whopping .370 wOBA. I’m surprised he’s this cheap today. Take advantage of it.

Eric Haase (R), C/OF DET ($2,800 FD) Like Stanton, Haase is homering today. Daniel Lynch (L) has been abused by right-handers, to the tune of a .486 batting average, .540 wOBA and an OPS above 1.300! Sheesh! Haase has hit southpaws at a .338 clip with nine home runs in just 68 at-bats! Lastly, Haase’s road OPS (.964) is infinitely better than his home mark (.697), so the stars are aligning here. Haase is a staple in any lineup build today.

DraftKings

Abraham Toro (B), 3B HOU ($2,900 DK) - Another Houston right-hander. You read about Hearn’s struggles against righties above in the Correa writeup, so need to mention it again here. Toro has hit righties at a .318 clip in 2021, and while has cooled off lately, he’s far better in his home park, and Houston will have plenty of runners on base for him when he steps up to the dish.

Jaime Barria (R), SP ($5,500 DK) - The twins nearly got no-hit last by Patrick Sandoval (L) and they just traded away Nelson Cruz (R). Over the last two weeks, the Twins rank 24th out of the 30 teams in OPS and they are league average in terms of strikeout rate. Barria has plenty of risk today, but he’s super cheap and if he can twirl a couple of innings against an offense that will force most of its switch-hitters to bat from the left side, he’s got a chance to post close to 4x value today.
