Thursday saw some pretty chalk League of Legends, especially in the LCK with Gen.G winning in dominating fashion. Friday brings us one of the most exciting matchups with T1 taking on DRX for possession of second place. The LCK has almost worked through their first round-robin of the Summer Split while the LPL is also nearing their halfway point of their domestic league. More and more pressure is being put on these teams, coaching staffs, and players to make a solid run and get an opportunity to make their domestic playoffs. A lot to break down as we move into a cram-packed League of Legends weekend, so let’s dive in!

Fantasy Value Breakdown

Series #1: KT Rolster v Damwon Gaming

Series Breakdown: I didn’t set the series score going the full three games because I am overly impressed with KT Rolster but instead I have issues with some of the approaches from Damwon Gaming. Their drafts haven’t been great and they have tended to underuse the mechanical skill of their players in an effort to force specific types of team comps. Into KT Rolster, they can divert away from their individual stregnths more and still pick up wins. I think the best player on KT is Aiming, their mid laner. He can win the lane independently and with the production of ShowMaker in a few of DWG’s series. ShowMaker has averaged 58.5 FPPG (only 4 points more per game compared to Aiming) and he has needed a ton of attention from Canyon to help his lane. The core to DWG’s win condition is their ADC deokdam (78.7% team Kill participation and 28 kills) who is averaging 12 more FPPG over KT’s Aiming. This series could get ugly and full of mistakes but that leaves areas to pick up points on either side of the matchup.

Favorite Picks: deokdam (DK: $7,400), Kellin (DK: $5,600), Nuguri (DK: $5,800)

Value Picks: Aria (KT: $6,400), Cuzz (KT: $6,000)

Cann’s Match Pick: Damwon Gaming (2-1)

Series #2: Edward Gaming v TT Gaming

Series Breakdown: There isn’t a match on this slate that feels more like the classic “underdog gets shocking upset” that happens in professional League of Legends from time to time. Edward Gaming has had an up and down 2022 but have looked to be in stronger form as of late. They are currently in 4th place and are 4-1 on the season. Their top performer is their ADC Viper who is the main win-condition for the team. He has a 6.0 KDA, 59 kills, and a 73% team kill participation rate. Viper being so important for EDG is a blessing because he has the raw skil to carry but it can also be a curse. In games where EDG struggles or loses, it is because the opposing team can draft or gameplan him into a bad situation. I would imagine TT will try to empower Beichuan because as the jungler he can both try to limit Viper but also ensure TT is set up in a good position for the late game.

Favorite Picks: Viper (EDG: $12,000/$8,000), Flandre (EDG: $6,800)

Value Picks: TT Gaming ($4,400), Southwind (TT: $4,400)

Cann’s Match Pick: Edward Gaming (2-1)

Series #3: T1 Esports v DRX

Series Breakdown: Even with both of these teams dropping series earlier this week, this should still be exciting. There are legitimate debates for both teams and I would imagine we will see a full three game set here. I would give DRX the edge in the mid lane (Zeka) and the bottom lane (Deft and BeryL) based on current performances. Faker and Gumayusi both have seemed like they have either tried too hard in certain matches or been super avoidant in others. For T1, watch out for the top half of the map. Zeus and Oner are a deadly duo and when Oner ventures to the top lane, they convert on his ganks a ton of the time. Pyosik will have his hands full in this match and he will be challenged more than in any of DRX’s previous series.

Favorite Picks: Zeus (T1: $6,200), Oner (T1: $6,800), T1 Esports ($5,400)

Value Picks: Zeka (DRX: $10,200/$6,800), Deft (DRX: $6,600), DRX ($5,000)

Cann’s Match Pick: T1 Esports (2-1)

Series #4: Anyone’s Legend v Victory Five

Series Breakdown: Vegas (Bolvada) feels like this series is going to be significantly closer than I believe it will be. There is nothing here that makes me feel like AL has the pieces or approaches to take on V5. V5 has elite talent in Photic (56 total kills and a 5+ kill per game average) and Dream (8.0 KDA and a 12% team death percentage) who both show such a high ceilings and are supported by great utility players. AL has shown some flexibility in their drafts and it has benefitted Betty (ADC) immensely. The late game teamfights will be the place though  where V5 separate themselves from AL and these late game fights are where you pick up the most points.

Favorite Picks: Photic (V5: $11,700/$7,800), Dream (V5: $11,400/$7,600), Ppgod (V5: $6,000)

Value Picks: Xiaohao (AL: $6,200), Zdz (AL: $5,200)

Cann’s Match Pick: Victory Five (2-0)
