Focusing on the early slate, any time there's only five games, play light. Do not overthink going against the grain, make the best lineups and construct strong cash game builds. As always, use all the resources available including the value vault, the hitting coach and our DFS playbook. Best of luck.

Top Tier

Max Scherzer, Los Angeles Dodgers ($10,200 on DraftKings, $11,300 on FanDuel)

Vying for a Cy Young Award, what better way than turning in a dominant outing in Coors Field? Yes, there's risk paying full retail for Scherzer but with last night's outing by Walker Buehler, many may be scared. Scherzer's won his last 11 decisions dating back to June fourth with a 1.90 ERA over his last 99.2 innings. His last 30 days statistics yield a 0.00 ERA with a 4-0 record in 36.2 innings and a robust 48:3 K:BB. He's a stud.

Mid Tier

Adam Wainwright, St. Louis ($9,600 on DraftKings, $9,500 on FanDuel)

Riding the wave of an 11-game winning streak, suddenly the Cardinals loom in contention for the National League Central, not just a Wild Card spot in the playoffs. Wainwright owns a 1.87 ERA his last five starts with 19 strikeouts against seven walks in 33.2 innings. Ride the momentum and target him in cash games this afternoon.

Logan Webb, San Francisco ($9,200 on DraftKings, $9,800 on FanDuel)

Already featured in our Behind the Breakout series, Webb continues producing down the stretch for the Giants. He's 3-0 his last five starts with a 2.65 ERA, 36:4 K:BB and 1.00 WHIP his last five starts spanning 34 innings. With the Padres postseason aspirations fading fast, Webb could extinguish them with another strong outing today.

Bargain Arms

Charlie Morton, Atlanta ($7,500 on DraftKings, $8,600 on FanDuel)

Entering this outing with a 13-6 record and 17 quality starts this year, saving some money in a build with Morton as your SP2 makes sense. Although he's only 1-2 his last 30 days through five starts, he's logged 30 innings with a 3.00 ERA, 31:7 K:BB and 0.93 WHIP. Steady, but not spectacular, use Morton with confidence facing Arizona this afternoon.

Yu Darvish, San Diego ($8,700 on DraftKings, $8,400 on FanDuel)

Representing Forrest Gump on this slate, Darvish is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you will get. Only for GPP's, if looking for variation and a starting pitcher lottery ticket, one can take a shot on the Padres starter but he's 1-3 his last five starts recording only 25.2 innings with 28 strikeouts. Yes, he could fire six shutout innings with strikeout upside or he could be out by the fourth. Feeling lucky?
