EPL DFS Playbook: May 19
The penultimate English Premier League DFS slate of the season is most notable for its implications on the bottom of the table. Burnley needs to pick up a point at Aston Villa to move out of the relegation zone with one game to play, but that will be difficult after they lost to Villa 3-1 at home just two weeks ago. Burnley can actually pass Everton and move into 16th place with a win and an Everton loss at home against Crystal Palace. Everton needs a win to clinch another Premier League season; any other result will have them in danger heading into Sunday.
The rest of the teams are pretty firm in their places in the table. Chelsea cannot catch second-place Liverpool or fall out of the top four. Leicester could use a win to clinch a top-half finish but Crystal Palace and Aston Villa have little to play far besides an outside chance of a top-10 finish. The EPL DFS slate heats up today and we've got the Premier League's top plays and EPL Lineups ready for you!
EPL DFS Top Goalkeeper Plays
Goalkeepers | ||||||
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Nick Pope | BRN | AVL | 4300 | 6.48 | 9 | 10.47 |
Pope has at least four saves in five of his last six games, with three wins and two clean sheets in that span. He might have the best ceiling of any keeper on the slate, and he probably has the best floor. For whatever it is worth, Burnley needs a point to climb out of the relegation zone heading into the final day of the season while 14th-place Aston Villa has little to play for.
Danny Ward | LEI | CHE | 3600 | 11.44 | 5 | 16.50 |
This call could easily blow up in my face, but with Kai Havertz and Timo Werner likely out, you could do worse than hoping Ward racks up a bunch of saves while mostly keeping Chelsea off the scoreboard.
Emiliano Martinez | AVL | BRN | 5200 | 6.37 | 10 | 10.27 |
Only Norwich and Watford have been shut out more often than Burnley, and only Norwich has scored fewer goals. Martinez allowed a goal against Burnley two weeks ago but made up for it with a win and five saves. If you are paying up to chase a win and clean sheet, there is no need to look any further than Martinez. |
EPL DFS Top Forward Plays
Forwards | ||||||
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Ollie Watkins | AVL | BRN | 6800 | 9.16 | 18 | 15.12 |
Liverpool is the only team that has kept Watkins out of the net in his last three games. He has at least one chance created in seven consecutive games, and while I don't love him for cash games, he looks like a nice value on both sites.
Romelu Lukaku | CHE | LEI | 7800 | 7.04 | 20 | 11.64 |
I thought his price would be higher on draftKings after he had three goals, 10 shots and four chances created in his last two games. It is difficult to trust him on either site but with Kai Havertz and Timo Werner likely out, Lukaku is as good a bet as anyone on the slate to score at least one goal.
Wilfried Zaha | CRY | EVE | 7900 | 13.28 | 18 | 17.51 |
I like a lot of the cheaper Palace attackers but none of them can come close to matching Zaha's goal upside. He has 12 shots, seven chances created and four crosses in his last three starts. |
EPL DFS Top Midfield Plays
Midfielders | ||||||
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Dwight McNeil | BRN | AVL | 6700 | 9.75 | 13 | 11.02 |
I'm not expecting McNeil to break his scoreless drought in the final week of the season but he doesn't need to, especially on FD, where he has at least 14.2 fantasy points in four of his last five games. McNeil has 25 crosses, 10 chances created and 12 shots in those five games.
Eberechi Eze | CRY | EVE | 6400 | 5.4 | 12 | 5.81 |
Eze lost his spot on free kicks to Luka Milivojevic at Aston Villa last week, and it caused his price to drop quite a bit on DK. Eze had 19 crosses and five chances created in his three games before that, and he is a must-play for DK cash games if Milivojevic is on the bench.
Luka Milivojevic | CRY | EVE | 3600 | 5.07 | 7 | 6.07 |
In his first start in nearly three months, Milivojevic had six crosses and three chances created. With Michael Olise out, Milivojevic is a must-play on DK if he starts. He would be worth a look on FD as well.
Conor Gallagher | CRY | EVE | 4800 | 11.71 | 17 | 16.39 |
I really didn't intend to have this many Crystal Palace players in my Playbook, but the combination of their improved play of late and Everton's allowing the most goals of any team on the slate made it undeniable. Since no-showing against Newcastle in April, Gallagher is averaging 3.5 crosses and 2.3 shots through four games.
Anthony Gordon | EVE | CRY | 7700 | 9.73 | 13 | 11.23 |
Gordon has been the best player on his team for most of the season, and his crossing gives him a high ceiling on DraftKings. There are higher-upside guys to chase in DK tournaments but I like Gordon in all other formats. |
EPL DFS Top Defender Plays
Defenders | ||||||
Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
Charlie Taylor | BRN | AVL | 4600 | 7.6 | 10 | 11.83 |
Taylor has been much better than Connor Roberts since Dwight McNeil shifted to the right side. Taylor has at least 7.1 DK fantasy points in six of his last eight games.
Lucas Digne | AVL | BRN | 6000 | 10.23 | 12 | 14.80 |
Digne is averaging three chances created per game in his last five games, and he added six crosses and an assist against Burnley two weeks ago. He appears to be safe on both sites and I'm surprised his price isn't higher on FD.
Timothy Castagne | LEI | CHE | 3900 | 5.26 | 8 | 10.80 |
Like Lucas Digne, Castagne has been so good offensively that I am willing to play him on FanDuel, even in cash lineups. Castagne has at least 6.4 DK fantasy points in five straight games and at least 18.4 FD fantasy points in three straight.
Marcos Alonso | CHE | LEI | 7100 | 12.68 | 15 | 17.05 |
I'm not sure I am paying this much for a defender on either site, though Alonso has some UTIL appeal on DK. Alonso is as safe as Lucas Digne but his ceiling is higher, which is why he is so expensive.
Kevin Long | BRN | AVL | 2700 | 1.86 | 7 | 4.88 |
Long was solid for fantasy in seven starts last season, which makes his two starts this season especially disappointing. That being said, the other three Burnley central defenders are all averaging over 15 FD fantasy points per game, and Long isn't that much worse than those guys are. I can't call him safe, but he could easily wind up being the best value defender on FD Thursday. |
