D’Andre Swift (quad) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.
This is the first we’re hearing of a quad injury for Swift, though a limited practice to start the week is usually not a cause for concern. Even if Swift doesn’t miss any time because of the injury, it could give head coach Ben Johnson a reason to increase the workload for rookie running back Kyle Monangai. Swift coughed up a fumble in Week 2 and is averaging a pedestrian 4.0 yards per carry despite the Bears’ line looking vastly improved compared to 2024. Swift is still the top option in the Chicago backfield, but fantasy managers will want to keep an eye on this quad issue going forward.
D’Andre Swift rushed 12 times for 63 yards in the Bears’ Week 2 loss to the Lions, adding three receptions for six yards.
Swift also lost a first half fumble after Brian Branch put a helmet on the football. Not ideal, though not the most egregious giveaway you will ever see. Swift remained the Bears’ clear No. 1 runner, out-touching No. 2 Kyle Monangai 15-9. Nearly all of Monangai’s work came in clock-killing garbage time. No. 3 Roschon Johnson didn’t see the ball on offense after making his 2025 debut. Swift has done very little his unquestioned lead back status so far this season, but at some point it is going to lead to actual RB2 returns. That could be against the Cowboys in Week 3.
D’Andre Swift rushed 17 times for 53 yards in the Bears’ Week 1 loss to the Vikings, adding 12 yards on three receptions.
Swift was the only Chicago back to register a carry in Week 1, adding five targets to his ledger to the one of rookie Kyle Monangai. Roschon Johnson was held out of this one with an injury, so it remains to be seen if Swift will continue forward with such a robust share of the opportunities out of the backfield once Johnson returns, but the Week 1 returns were promising for fantasy managers that invested a middle-round pick in the veteran back. Up next for Swift and the Bears are the Lions on the road in Week 2.
Marquee Sports Networks’ Scott Bair reports Bears RB D’Andre Swift is “putting in the work to be physically ready for a heavy workload” in 2025.
After the Bears chose not to trade up in the 2025 draft in pursuit of Ashton Jeanty, Swift appears to be the team’s No. 1 back headed into 2025. Swift is coming off a disappointing 2024 campaign in which he notched a career-low 3.8 yards per carry and posted a lowly 44 percent rushing success rate. Swift, per Bair, said he “reviewed the tape and wasn’t happy” with his 2024 performance. Bears head coach Ben Johnson, who worked with Swift in Detroit before Swift left for the Bears, complimented Swift as a “fierce competitor.” “If you tell him that you’re going to need one yard, four yards, whatever that is, he’s going to find a way to put his shoulder down and move the pile and get that done for you,” Johnson said of Swift. Though Roschon Johnson could take valuable goal line touches in the Chicago offense, Swift should be the nominal lead back in the new-look Bears offense.
