2025 Player Outlook
If it weren’t for a back injury, who knows what kind of year Yelich would have ended up with in 2024. In 73 games, he hit 11 home runs, stole 21 bases, and slashed .315/.406/.504. It goes without saying he was on pace for a new career best in stolen bases, and his 79.6 percent contact rate last season would have been his highest since 2014 (82.4%). His offseason was spent rehabbing from back surgery, so we’ll need to keep an eye through Spring Training to ensure there’s no setbacks, issues, etc. If healthy, he figures to be a fantasy force again in 2025, and in line for his first 20/20 season since 2019, setting him up to be a very solid value outside the top 20-25 outfielders.
Player News
Christian Yelich (back) was held out of the Brewers’ lineup once again on Saturday night against the Pirates.
Yelich was able to take swings before the game though, which is an encouraging sign. It’s possible that he could return to action on Sunday, but it’s going to depend on how he feels in the morning. Fantasy managers should be sure to check his status prior to Sunday’s series finale.
Christian Yelich (back) was held out of the Brewers lineup for a third consecutive game on Friday due to soreness in his back.
The Brewers hold a comfortable lead on the top spot in the National League, so there’s no reason to rush Yelich back into action here. They’re going to take it day-to-day and make sure that he’s feeling well enough to go as opposed to rushing him back and risking further aggravation. Jake Bauers will function in his place as the team’s designated hitter on Friday evening and will bat seventh against Johan Oviedo and the Pirates.
The Brewers expect Christian Yelich in the lineup for Friday’s game against the Pirates.
Yelich is out of the lineup for a second straight game Thursday due to back soreness.
Christian Yelich was scratched from Wednesday’s lineup with lower back soreness.
Yelich has dealt with persistent back issues throughout his career, and underwent back surgery last summer, so there’s some legitimate cause for concern here. It sounds like a precautionary measure, but he’ll presumably undergo further evaluation to determine the severity of the issue. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day heading into Thursday’s series finale.
