Montes de Oca joins Arizona’s bullpen for Saturday’s regularly scheduled contest against the Reds. The 25-year-old righty was up briefly last month, but didn’t end up making an appearance. He’s posted a serviceable 4.07 ERA across 24 1/3 innings (17 appearances) this season at the Triple-A level.

Diamondbacks placed RHP Cristian Mena on the 15-day injured list.

No word on the exact injury. Mena hits the shelf ahead of Saturday’s regularly scheduled contest between the Diamondbacks and Reds after Friday’s suspended game was wrapped up. The 22-year-old righty has compiled a strong 1.35 ERA across 6 2/3 innings (three appearances) this season in the big leagues.

Tyler O’Neill (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday with Triple-A Norfolk.

O’Neill has been out since mid-May working his way back from a shoulder impingement. He’ll need a handful of rehab games before he’s set to rejoin Baltimore’s lineup. It’ll be Dylan Carlson likely heading back to the minors once the 29-year-old slugger is back.

Pirates RHP Tanner Rainey has elected free agency.

Rainey will head to the open market in search of a new opportunity after posting an unsightly 10.57 ERA across 7 2/3 innings (11 appearances) this season for Pittsburgh. The 32-year-old righty went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week.

Pirates recalled RHP Isaac Mattson from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Mattson returns to the majors with the Pirates moving on from lefty reliever Joey Wentz ahead of Saturday’s game against the Phillies. The 29-year-old righty has made three appearances this season for Pittsburgh. He’ll operate in middle relief moving forward.

Christian Encarnacion-Strand went 3-for-5 with a homer and a game-winning double in the 10th as the Reds downed the Diamondbacks 4-3 in Friday’s suspended game.

Encarnacion-Strand’s homer came in the sixth inning last night, tying the game at three before play was halted. After play resumed today, the game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 10th, when CES’s liner to center plated the automatic runner. It’s a great first game back for Encarnacion-Strand, who missed seven weeks with back inflammation. He’s not promised regular playing time, but he should get if he hits, and he offers significant mixed-league upside.
