Andy Ibáñez homered and doubled in his return to the majors Monday versus the Diamondbacks.
Both hits came off Eduardo Rodriguez. The plan likely is for Ibáñez’s stay to be a short one, but he can help against lefties and play quality infield defense if the Tigers want to keep him around.
Tigers recalled INF Andy Ibáñez from Triple-A Toledo.
Ibáñez receives the call back to Detroit to fortify the club’s bench. It’ll likely only be a temporary stay since they’ll need to free up an active roster spot for newly acquired starter Chris Paddack in a couple days.
Tigers optioned INF Andy Ibáñez to Triple-A Toledo.
The 32-year-old has made a career for himself by mashing against left-handed pitching, but he struggled mightily in his time at the dish this season — slashing a woeful .213/.292/.319 with only two home runs and 15 RBI in 106 plate appearances. He’ll attempt to work through his issues in an everyday role at the Triple-A level. Jahmai Jones was promoted to the big league roster to take his spot on the Tigers’ bench.
Andy Ibáñez singled, doubled and drove in a pair of runs on Thursday as the Tigers crushed the Rockies in the first game of their twin bill.
The 32-year-old lefty-masher did his job in this one, roping a run-scoring double off of Kyle Freeland to open the scoring in the top half of the first inning. He also chipped in a sacrifice fly in the second that extended the Tigers’ advantage to 5-0. For the season, he’s now hitting .259/.339/.407 to go with two home runs and 12 RBI.
