Marlins placed RHP Edward Cabrera on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Aug. 31, with a right elbow sprain.

This is almost certainly a season ender for the oft-injured Cabrera, who really seemed to have broken through when on the mound this season. He’s 7-7 with a 3.57 ERA and a 140/42 K/BB in 128 2/3 innings. Maybe Robby Snelling will get a look in his spot, and the Marlins also have Ryan Weathers coming back.

Edward Cabrera allowed six runs -- five earned -- with four strikeouts over four innings in a no-decision against the Mets on Saturday.

Francisco Lindor took Cabrera deep for a solo homer to open the bottom of the first inning. Two hits and two errors plated a second run in the second inning, this one unearned. Mark Vientos added a three-run homer off Cabrera in the third before Juan Soto took him deep for a solo shot in the fourth. Cabrera’s day would be done after four innings. He struck out four. The 27-year-old right-hander has posted a 3.57 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and a 140/42 K/BB ratio across 128 2/3 innings. He’ll take on the Phillies in Miami on Friday.

Cabrera was victimized by a ton of soft contact while giving up six runs — four earned — and 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings against the Cardinals last Tuesday. Tonight, just one ball fell in, that bring a Nacho Alvarez Jr. liner to left in the third. It’s Cabrera’s third 10-strikout game of the season, two of which have come against the Braves. He’ll take a 7-7 record and a 3.32 ERA into his next start versus the Mets.

Cabrera’s troubles usually stem from wildness, and he’d never allowed more than nine hits in an outing before giving up 11 singles tonight. Cabrera allowed a total of 33 hits in 55 1/3 innings while posting a 2.11 ERA in nine starts from June 19 to Aug. 8. In his last two outings, though, he’s given up 18 hits and nine earned runs in 9 2/3 innings. We’d say it makes sense to hold on to him mixed leagues for now. He generated 17 missed swings tonight, and while he did give up four very well hit singles, he allowed only six hard-hit balls in total.
