The 28-year-old infielder was released by the Athletics on Thursday. He returns to the place where he had the most success in his career — crushing 23 homers and driving in 75 runs for the Brewers during the 2022 season. He’ll report to Triple-A Nashville for the time being.

The 28-year-old infielder had been designated for assignment earlier in the week. He passed through waivers unclaimed and the A’s granted him his outright release. Urías hit just .230/.315/.338 with eight homers, 25 RBI, two stolen bases and a 45/31 K/BB ratio across 330 plate appearances with the A’s this season. He’s now free to peddle his wares on the open market.

Athletics designated 2B Luis Urías for assignment.

Urías has been sent packing with the Athletics deciding to bring Zack Gelof back from the minors following an extended demotion. The 28-year-old should attract some interest on waivers after hitting .230/.315/.338 with eight homers and two steals in 330 plate appearances over 96 games.

Luis Urías (back) is starting at second base and batting eighth against the Nationals on Thursday.

After missing two games with a back injury, Urías will return to the lineup, which pushes Gio Urshela back to the bench. Urías has been getting extra playing time with both Max Muncy (hand) and Jacob Wilson (forearm) on the injured list, but he’s gone just 6-for-30 in 11 games since the All-Star break and isn’t a recommended add in any fantasy leagues.
