Young is officially week to week. He seemed like he gave it a legitimate go this week before being ruled out on Friday. He should be considered genuinely questionable for Week 3 against the Seahawks.

A minor #RevengeGame narrative is snuffed out as Young hasn’t practiced due to the calf injury since the season began. Trevor Penning (toe) joins Young on the inactive line. New Orleans managed four sacks without Young against the Cardinals in Week 1, but Kyler Murray gave them a little help on those.

Young’s absence is a tough loss to stomach for a transitioning Saints’ defense. Veteran EDGE Cameron Jordan will start in Young’s stead. CB Alontae Taylor was cleared to play after successfully rehabbing a groin injury suffered on August 8th. Saints OG Trevor Penning (toe) will also miss the game, weakening the left side of New Orleans’ offensive line. Although the Saints’ first-round rookie LT Kelvin Banks Jr. can be expected to hold his own, the coaching staff would undoubtedly prefer to have a proven veteran on the field next to him. Penning is backed up by former Titans starter, OG Dillon Radunz.

Young was officially listed as limited for the first practice of the year, though that’s presumably because he left the session early. Moore downplayed the severity of the injury after practice, but Young’s status on Thursday will be more revealing. Young totaled 5.5 sacks and one forced fumble in his first year as a Saint in 2024. He was looking to build on that momentum after re-signing with the team during the offseason, though this calf issue could throw a wrench in those plans.
