2025 Player Outlook

Webb posted a groundball rate above 56% for the fourth consecutive season and his walk rate came in at a rock-solid 5.9 percent. His strikeout rate dipped below league average to 20.5 percent, which impacts his fantasy appeal. But Webb did toss 204.2 innings with a 3.47 ERA and has now made at least 32 starts in three straight seasons. He is a durable frontline starter that pitches in a very friendly home park.

It’ll be the first time since 2015 and the first time since Opening Day changed from Monday to Thursday that MLB will go with a solo game the night before the true Opening Day. Even more rare is the Giants getting to open up at home; this will be just the second time since 2009.

Webb averaged 91.8 mph with his sinker tonight, technically a season low (he’d come in at 91.9 mph twice in the second half). He often averaged 93 mph early in the season, but he’s typically been much closer to 92 mph while going 5-3 with a 4.25 ERA since the beginning of July. That he excelled anyway tonight was nice; he hadn’t had a quality start against a strong offense since beating the Dodgers on June 13. He’ll likely make his next start Thursday against the Cubs.
