Player News
Yainer Diaz is absent from the Astros’ starting lineup for Thursday evening’s tilt against the Athletics.
The hard-hitting backstop had started five of the team’s last six games, with four of those starts coming behind the dish, so he’ll get a breather in this one. Victor Caratini will slide behind the dish and will do the catching for Jason Alexander on Thursday night.
HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reports the Jazz waived Jaden Springer.
The 28th overall pick in the 2021 draft, Springer has not been able to truly establish himself in the NBA. Traded to Houston by the Celtics at the February trade deadline, Springer was subsequently waived and would go on to sign with the Jazz. In 43 combined games for the Celtics and Jazz, he averaged 3.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 13.2 minutes. Once he clears waivers, Springer can sign with any team as an unrestricted free agent.
Jacob Wilson is not in the Athletics’ starting lineup for Thursday night’s showdown against the Astros.
There haven’t been any sort of rumblings about an injury, so it looks to be just a routine night off for the All-Star shortstop. Max Schuemann will start in his place and will bat leadoff against Jason Alexander and the Astros on Thursday evening in Houston.
Jaylen Warren took first-team reps ahead of Kaleb Johnson on Thursday.
Both players lined up with the first-team offense, but Warren got the start. We expect both players to remain involved all year, but following the competition to see which player at least gets the 1A designation is worthwhile. For now, the veteran is in the driver’s seat.
Zach McKinstry is not in the Tigers’ starting lineup for Thursday night’s battle against the Blue Jays.
McKinstry will get a breather with left-hander Eric Lauer toeing the slab for the Blue Jays on Thursday evening. Colt Keith will draw a rare start against a southpaw in his place and will bat eighth as the Tigers attempt to snap a three-game losing streak.
Alejandro Kirk is not in the Blue Jays’ starting lineup for Thursday night’s series opener against the Tigers.
It’s nothing more than a routine night off for the 26-year-old backstop after starting each of the team’s last four games behind the dish. Tyler Heineman will do the catching for the Blue Jays and will bat eighth against Reese Olson and the Tigers on Thursday evening in Motown.
