Welcome to the DFS Dart Board for NFL Week 3!
If you're new to Fantasy Alarm/DFS Alarm, the Dart Board is an add-on to the Playbook that I started three or four seasons ago. It came about when I was building GPP lineups and realized I needed more salary relief. As I dug through my notes to see who stood out the most among those players at a more affordable price, it hit me. When I put players in the Playbook, I am thinking primarily about cash lineup plays -- guys with a high floor who I could conceivably put into my core-group and build a lineup around. After those players, I would mix in a handful of guys who had boatloads of upside and were in soft match-ups, but I wasn’t paying as much attention to their salary as I should have. And that's where the Dart Board came into play.
Every now and then, when building lineups while using particular stacks, you need some salary relief. You need a guy who may not be minimally priced, but low enough to give you the flexibility you need to get someone like Dalvin Cook or DK Metcalf in as a flex play or something. Occasionally you may see a min-priced QB or TE in here, but more often than not, this space is reserved for running backs and wide receivers who are $5,500 and lower on FanDuel or like $5,000 or lower on Draft Kings.
Now while we call this a Dart Board, keep in mind that every player has been carefully researched. We're not up here picking players all willy-nilly, desperately hoping they hit. We're looking for the cheapest bargains possible who still have the strongest potential to give you at least a 3-5x return on what you pay.
All set? Great. Let's take a look at who we've got this week...

---|---|---|---|---|
RB | James White | NO @ NE Sun 1:00 | 4900 | 5400 |
If we're looking for value on this slate at the RB position, then White has some appeal, especially on Draft Kings. Through two games he's only seen a small handful of carries, but he's also wrangled in six catches in each game and found the end zone once. Mac Jones will continue to rely on him as he develops into a better, more confident quarterback and that only raises the value of the veteran. The Saints are an absolute enigma right now, but what we do know if that they rank 30th in DVOA against running back pass-plays, so if that remains a weakness, Belichick, Jones and White are likely to continue exploiting it. WR | Tyler Boyd | IND @ TEN Sun 1:00 | 4700 | 5600 |
LATE ADD – Meant to add him on the original post and believe I even write that up in the Ja'Marr Chase section of the Playbook. With no Tee Higgins who is listed as doubtful and unlikely to play, Boyd becomes an immediate pivot, especially on DK at this bargain price. He was a favorite for Joe Burrow last season and should rekindle the on-field bromance with Higgins out of the way. He is highly undervalued and should warrant consideration. Game Type: CASH & GPP Weather: Sunny | ||||
WR | Quintez Cephus | TB @ LA Sun 4:25 | 3900 | 5300 |
Garbage-time points still count, people! We may not love the Lions or believe they will beat the Ravens, but we've seen them score some points over the first two weeks of the season and Cephus has scored a touchdown in both games. With Tyrell Williams on IR due to lingering concussion symptoms, Cephus steps in as the top receiving option on this team. Maybe that warrants him coverage from Marlon Humphrey a lot of the time, but we aren't hearing anything about shadow-coverage. If you're looking to save some salary for your GPP tournaments, Cephus could be exactly what you are looking for. Game Type: GPP Weather: Cloudy | ||||
WR | K.J. Osborn | WAS @ BUF Sun 1:00 | 3500 | 5100 |
While Dalvin Cook is going to run heavy in this match-up and both Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen will get the most attention from Kirk Cousins, Osborn has entrenched himself as a strong No. 3 option in this offense. Through two games, he's turned 15 targets into 12 catches for 167 yards and one touchdown and given the fact that the Vikings secondary is so porous, many of their games will require a heavy second-half passing scheme which keeps Osborn on the field. This game here with Seattle will be a prime example and those who need a little salary relief but still want a piece of a game with a 55.5 over/under can confidently turn to Osborn in GPP tournaments. Game Type: GPP Weather: Mostly sunny | ||||
WR | Olamide Zaccheaus | CHI @ CLE Sun 1:00 | 3500 | 4600 |
No Russel Gage means more snaps for Zaccheaus and if this game against the Giants turns into the shootout we expect it to be, he could be a fantastic option for salary relief. He's got the speed and the big-play upside you need/want in a GPP dart throw and we've seen Matty Ice unload the ball his way in the past. If you're playing on DK, I prefer to use Osborn who should see more targets come his way and they are the same price, but if you're playing on FanDuel or Yahoo, you can save a few extra bucks here with Zaccheaus. Game Type: GPP Weather: Mostly sunny | ||||
WR | Scotty Miller | CIN @ PIT Sun 1:00 | 3100 | 4800 |
I've been waffling back and forth between Miller and Tyler Johnson, but have settled on Miller because of his on-field rapport with Tom Brady. With Antonio Brown out this week and Jalen Ramsey likely to be all up in Mike Evans' business inside the red zone, this is a prime opportunity for Miller to step out as a dart throw for GPP tournaments. Yes, Rob Gronkowski will also get the looks, but the Rams are going to scheme for him inside the 20 and can be successful as they do rank fourth in DVOA against the position. Miller is the definition of a dart-throw and could end up a bullseye. Game Type: GPP Weather: Sunny |
