Schanuel had reached three times and stole a base going into the tenth inning but had nothing to show for it in the 1-1 contest. He came through in the big spot for the Angels, knocking a base hit to center field to score the walk-off run. The 23-year-old first baseman is hitting .284/.382/.391 with three homers, 34 runs scored, 21 RBI, and three steals across 265 plate appearances.
Travis d’Arnaud went 1-for-1 with a solo homer against the Athletics on Tuesday.
With the Angels down in a 1-0 game in the eighth inning, d’Arnaud pinch hit to lead off the inning and took T.J. McFarland deep for a game-tying solo homer. The 36-year-old backstop has played sparingly, hitting .234/.287/.394 with three homers and seven RBI across 101 plate appearances.
José Soriano allowed one run with 12 strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision against the Athletics on Tuesday.
Soriano tossed five shutout innings, holding the Athletics without a hit until a walk and a double drove in a run in the sixth. It would be the first run of the game in Tuesday’s pitchers duel against Mitch Spence. Soriano would complete a scoreless seventh, collecting a career-high 12 strikeouts on an impressive 22 whiffs. The 26-year-old right-hander will take a 3.86 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and a 64/39 K/BB ratio across 79 1/3 innings into a start against the Yankees in New York on Monday.
Mitch Spence tossed five shutout innings with four strikeouts in a no-decision against the Angels on Tuesday.
Spence, making just his second start of the season after pitching primarily out of the bullpen, was outstanding against the Angels. He held them scoreless over five innings, scattering three hits with no walks while striking out four. The 27-year-old right-hander now holds a 3.67 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and a 45/15 K/BB ratio across 49 innings. He’s tentatively in line for a start against the Astros in Sacramento on Monday.
Alejandro Kirk went 3-for-5 with a homer, two RBI and three runs scored on Tuesday night, propelling the Blue Jays to a 10-9 victory over the Cardinals.
Kirk singled off of Miles Mikolas in the top half of the first and scored on a three-run shot by Andrés Giménez. The 26-year-old backstop then greeted Kyle Leahy with a 402-foot (104.0 mph EV) two-run blast in the seventh inning that made it 8-4. He also singled in the ninth inning and scampered home on a wild pitch with what would prove to be the winning run. Kirk is having a strong season at the dish, slashing .323/.366/.441 with five homers and 31 RBI in his first 213 plate appearances.
Andrés Giménez went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBI on Tuesday evening as the Blue Jays eked out a one-run victory over the Cardinals.
The 26-year-old second baseman gave the Blue Jays an early advantage in this one with a 387-foot (101.2 mph EV) three-run blast off of Miles Mikolas in the top half of the first inning. He also drove in a run with a two-out single off of Chris Roycroft in the ninth inning that made it a 9-6 ballgame. With his two-hit night, Giménez is now hitting .213/.287/.333 with four homers, 14 RBI and nine stolen bases in his first 42 games with the Blue Jays.
