A full slate tonight, which is welcomed with open arms after last night’s short slate! There’s a lot of games to keep an eye on due to weather, so make sure you monitor that closely. There’s some really nice value at-bats that can be used in both cash and/or GPPs. For you DraftKings players, there’s even two catchers listed below for your use! Without further ado, let’s jump in today’s Value Vault!
Both Sites:
Ryan Mountcastle, 1B/OF BAL ($2,900 FD/$3,600 DK) - This isn’t as much an indictment on David Peterson, but more so a testament to Mountcastle’s production of late against southpaws. Over the last four weeks, Mountcastle has the third-best average and OPS against southpaws, to go alongside two home runs and nine RBI. Mountcastle also sports a .321 average at home, with seven home runs and 21 RBI across 109 at-bats. I love the price points on both sites today.
Phil Gosselin, 2B LAA ($2,000 FD/$3,100 DK) - Kansas City’s Kris Bubic has been tough on lefties, holding them to just .091 batting average. Righties on the other hand are hitting .248 and Los Angeles’ Phil Gosselin has been a southpaw’s kryptonite this season. In 2021, Gosselin is hitting .423 against lefties with a 1.098 OPS. Over the last four weeks against lefties, his numbers are even better, to the tune of a .450 average and 1.176 OPS. He should be near the top of the order and he’s simply too cheap with his success against lefties.
Anthony Santander, OF BAL ($2,600 FD/$3,300 DK) - Santander has hit lefties solid this year, to the tune of a batting average north of .360. He’s hit safely in five of his last six games, scoring four runs and driving in four in that span. He’s coming off an impressive three-hit outing a couple days ago, and will look to carry that over against New York’s David Peterson. The New York southpaw has been more susceptible to left-handed hitters, but Santander is too cheap to ignore today.
FanDuel:
Teoscar Hernandez, OF TOR ($2,900 FD) - This is for GPPs only folks, as Carlos Rodon has been excellent this year. However, Hernandez has demolished lefties. In 2021, Hernandez is hitting .419 off lefties, with three home runs and nine RBI in just 31 at-bats. The matchup is less than ideal, given Rodon’s successes this year, but Hernandez’s numbers against lefties in 2021, and for his career (.842 career OPS vs. LHP) are hard to ignore.
Andrew McCutchen, OF PHI ($3,500 FD) - Cutch has hit safely in six straight games, and during this span, he’s hit three home runs and two doubles with five runs scored and eight RBI. This year against lefties, he’s posted a 1.016 OPS and over the last four weeks in particular, he has a ridiculous .330 ISO and 1.006 OPS against lefties. His price point is a bit higher than I’d typically include, but I view him as a value because he’s in a great spot to return a massive return on investment.
DraftKings:
Martin Maldonado, C HOU ($2,700 DK) - BvP play here, ladies and gentlemen! Maldonado is no stranger to Martin Perez, even though the latter likely wishes it was the case. In 14 at-bats against Perez, the Houston backstop has eight hits (3 doubles), good for a .571 batting average, 1.411 OPS and .603 wOBA. It’s been a rough go of things for Maldonado so far this year, but he’s hit safely in five of his last six games when a southpaw started for the opposition.
Ryan Jeffers, C MIN ($2,700 DK) - Righties are hitting .269 against Jordan Mongomery this season and the New York southpaw has a putrid 5.70 ERA in five road starts this year. Jeffers has just 12 at-bats against lefties this year, but he’s 4-for-12 with a home run and three RBI, good for a .333 average and .968 OPS. On DraftKings where you have to play a catcher, Jeffers offers a nice floor for a very reasonable price.
