Before you win some money in the main slate, you can enjoy some DFS for the afternoon slate! As for the main slate, we have eight games and there’s some big name pitchers going that will cost you a pretty penny. Are you looking at Framber Valdez? Joe Musgrove? Julio Urías? If so, you will need to keep reading to find a value bat or two to fit in your lineup! Are you loading up on bats in Coors Field? Well, I have a cheap starter below that you could roster to afford some of the bats in Colorado.

Regardless, there’s a little something for everyone below! Keep on reading to find the right value play (or two, or three) to round out your lineup for tonight’s main slate!

All Sites

Austin Slater, OF SFG ($2,400 FD/$2,500 DK/$7 Yahoo) - Slater is 5-for-12 with a home run against Julio Urías for his career, and overall against lefties this year Slater has an .841 OPS. Furthermore, the Giants are at home this evening, and Slater’s .827 OPS at home far exceeds his .501 mark on the road. Slater has hit Los Angeles pitching at a .400 clip this year with a 1.121 OPS, and he does have three hits (1 HR) in his last 11 at-bats overall. Tough matchup, but Slater has hit lefties well this season, and has really hit Dodger pitching well.

Ryan O’Hearn, 1B KC ($2,100 FD/$3,200 DK/$7 Yahoo) - O’Hearn might not have the most overpowering numbers against righties in 2021, but he certainly has quality numbers against Reynaldo López. In his career, he’s 6-for-13 with two home runs and a .588 wOBA against the Chicago right-hander. O’Hearn hasn’t been a regular player of late for the Royals, but he should be able to crack the lineup today, and makes for an intriguing value play, especially on FanDuel and Yahoo where they are paying you to play him.

Yahoo

Jonathan Schoop, 2B/1B DET ($10) - The first of two Tigers here is Schoop. Schoop should take advantage of Tyler Mahle’s reverse splits, and despite the fact that Schoop has been far better against lefties overall, it’s not like he’s been putrid against righties! Plus, Schoop is 5-for-13 this month, and for the 2021 season as a whole, he’s hitting .282 with a .771 OPS on the road. Righties against Mahle today make for an intriguing play, beginning with Schoop.

Carson Kelly, C ARI ($13) - Where you have to play a catcher, I’m targeting Kelly. The Arizona backstop has a .326 average against southpaws this year, and Seattle’s Marco Gonzalez has been more prone to right-handed hitters, allowing them to hit .265 with a .362 wOBA. Kelly has been a bit cold of late, hitting just .211 over the last two weeks, but he hit .260 overall in the month of August, and he does have a 1.058 OPS against southpaws in 2021. Trust the matchup against a lefty.

FanDuel

Avisaíl García, OF MIL ($3,200) - A lefty who struggles with right-handers is facing Milwaukee today? I’ll take Avisaíl García, please! The veteran slugger is hitting .298 against southpaws this year with a .964 OPS! He’s been dealing with a hamstring/back issue of late, so keep an eye on that, but if he’s healthy enough to play, he should be in your lineup. He’s hit St. Louis pitching at a .333 clip with a 1.345 OPS this season, and Cardinals southpaw Kwang Hyun Kim has allowed righties (.250 BA) to hit over 100 points higher than lefties (.146) in 2021. UPDATE: Garcia is not starting for Milwaukee.

Jeimer Candelario, 1B/3B DET ($2,900) - And here’s Tiger number two! Candelario is hitting .272 against right-handers this year, and while he likely hits from the left-handed side in this one, I’m comfortable playing him. Yes, Mahle has reverse splits, so righties tend to have more success against him, but Candelario is white hot, hitting .345 over the past week with a 1.022 OPS. Over the last month, he’s hitting .298 with a .913 OPS! Detroit makes for an intriguing value stack this evening, so if you decide to go that route, do not forget to include Candelario.

DraftKings

Daniel Lynch, SP KC ($5,400) - I love the price point here on Lynch. His first start against the White Sox was atrocious back in May, but the last time he faced this team in early August, he put up 23.1 DraftKings points and had seven strikeouts in five innings of work. Lynch has allowed three earned runs or fewer in every start but one this year, and has allowed one or less in four of his last five. The White Sox haven’t been striking out of late, but Lynch has a 2.39 ERA over his last five starts, and has 27 strikeouts in that span. He’s an ideal SP2 in a GPP today.

Dylan Carlson, OF STL ($3,200) - Carlson has been better against lefties this year, but Milwaukee’s Adrian Houser has allowed lefties to hit .269 this year, and Carlson has hit safely in five of his last six contests. Furthermore, three of those games have been multi-hit efforts. He’s seeing the ball well, hitting .381 with a 1.051 OPS over his last 21 at-bats, and again, while he has been better against lefties, he does have a .726 OPS versus righties this year, which might be higher than you thought.
