MLB DFS Playbook: June 15

McClanahan has been absolutely incredible this season with a 1.87 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, 7 wins, 98 strikeouts in 72.1 innings of work, and an insane DK ppg average of 26.6. In fact, he has scored at least 25.3 DK points in five straight outings and is coming off a game in which he scored 38.2. He faced the Yankees earlier this season and no issue with them, firing six innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts while picking up the win. 

Cortes finally had a poor start his last time out, but let’s look for him to bounce back on the flipside of McClanahan today. Cortes still has an impressive 1.96 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, with 71 strikeouts across 64.1 innings of work while averaging 22.1 DK points per game on the year. He has been crazy good at home this season with a 1.50 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, and 38 Ks across 30 innings. The Rays are 20^th in runs per game this year and they have the 10^th highest strikeout rate, so this is a pretty solid matchup. 

Strider was very dominant in his last outing, firing 5.2 shutout innings with eight piunch-outs while picking up the win to finish with 29.8 DK points. He has a 2.35 ERA on the year with 57 Ks across 38.1 innings of work. He’s been better on the road too with a 1.83 ERA and 1.02 WHIP, compared to marks of 2.89 and 1.23 at home, respectively. The Nationals are a below average offense as they rank 21^st in runs per game this year, but they don’t strikeout a lot, so keep that in mind. 

Contreras struggled a bit in his last start but his numbers on the year are still very strong with a 2..57 ERA and 33 strikeouts across 28 innings of work. The Cardinals are a very tough matchup, so I would only consider Contreras for GPP action. 

Winckowski was rocked in his first start for four runs in three innings against Baltimore, but he did have 4 Ks. He’s been really good at the AAA level though with a 3.38 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 43 strikeouts across 42.2 innings of work and today he gets a great matchup against Oakland. The A’s are 29^th in runs per game this season and they have the 6^th highest strikeout rate in the league. 

Smith is swinging a hot bat, hitting .306 with two home runs and two doubles over his last 10 games. He’s also been far better against lefties this year than righties, slashing .310/.420/.476 against them, compared to .222/.327/.389 against righties. 

TDA is very hot at the dish, hitting .293 with FOUR home runs and 20 total R+RBI over his last 10 games. He has also found success in this head-to-head matchup, going 3-9 (.333) with a home run against Fedde. 

Moreno had his first big game in the big leagues last night as he went 3-4 with two RBI. Today he faces a TERRIBLE pitcher in Zimmermann who has given up 41 hits(!) and 27 runs (!) over just his last 25.2 innings pitched with 12 home runs allowed! 

Olson hasn’t been incredible in his first year with the Braves, but he has been fine, hitting .249 with eight home runs, 24 doubles, and 57 total R+RBI across 63 games. I wouldn’t play him as a one-off today, but he works fine in a Braves stack (which I love today). 

Cron at home at Coors Field and facing a lefty is exactly when we really want to target using Cron. He is slashing an absurd .352/.404/.664 at home this season with 10 of his 14 home runs and 56 of his 75 total R+RBI. 

Hosmer is boring but he is really cheap and he is a solid play. He is hitting .286 with 48 total R+RBI across 57 games this season. The upside is lacking and I would definitely lean towards playing Cron today, but if you need to go cheap at 1B today Hosmer is your guy. 

Will Gimenez actually start against a lefty? Probably not, since the Guardians are dumb, but if he does I like him. He is slashing an absurd .393/.414/.536 against lefties this year across 30 PA, but for whatever reason the Guardians still seem to think he can only play against righties. 

Rodgers has been a completely different player at home this season, slashing .283/.336/.508 with ALL six of his home runs and 49 of his total 59 R+RBI, compared to slashing .220/.256/.256 on the road. 

Urias has been better across the board against lefties this season, slashing .231/.318/.385 against them, compared to .205/.311/.352 against righties. He may only be hitting .213 on the year, but he has six home runs and 32 total R+RBI across 35 games. 

J-Ram is averaging 12.1 DK ppg on the year and 13.9 over his last 10 games as he is hitting .342 in that span. He is now hitting .301 on the year with 16 home runs, 10 steals, and insane 62 RBI. He has flat-out been incredible this season and today he plays at Coors Field. 

Devers has homered in three straight games and has 12 total R+RBI over that span. He is now hitting .332 on the year with 15 home runs, 23 doubles, and 87 total R+RBI across 61 games of action. Elite. 

Wisdom isn’t very good, but he does have power and he is very good against lefties as he is slashing .276/.354/.535 against them this year, compared to .201/.286/.430 against righties. On top of that, he has a home run in three at-bats against Weathers.

Trea is having another elite season, hitting .297 with seven home runs, 13 steals, and 76 total R+RBI across 61 games. Detmers hasn’t been all that good outside of the random no-hitter that he tossed earlier this year.

Bo is swinging a hot bat, hitting .318 with three home runs and 15 total R+RBI over his last 10 games bringing his season totals up to a .265 average with 10 home runs, four steals, and 67 total R+RBI across 61 games. He hits lefties well and Zimmermann is a tomato can. 

Kim had a nice game yesterday, going 2-4 with a double and a pair of RBI. He is hitting just .218 on the year, but the counting stats aren’t half bad for a guy at his price as he has four home runs, four steals, and 46 total R+RBI across 56 games. 

Acuna is having another fantastic season, hitting .297 with six home runs, 11 steals, and 40 total R+RBI through his first 34 games played. He has been solid in this matchup too, going 3-11 (.273) with a dinger against Fedde.

Springer has been great as the Jays leadoff man, hitting .277 with 12 home runs, four steals, and 72 total R+RBI across 57 games played. He fits perfectly in a Jays stack today. 

From one Blue Jay in Springer to another in Teoscar; he is hitting .326 over the last 10 games with nine total R+RBI. He is slashing .318/.348/.455 against southpaws this season, compared to .231/.296/.372 against righties. 

Profar has been great as the Padres leadoff man and he is swinging a hot bat, hitting .324 with a home run and 20 total R+RBI over his last 10 games. He now has seven home runs, four steals, and 72 total R+RBI across 62 games this year. 

Ozuna has homered in back-to-back games and has multiple hits in both, scoring 19 and 21 DK points. He now has 12 home runs on the year and he has dominated this matchup in a small sample as he is 6-9 (.667) with two home runs against Fedde. 

Ward has seen a massive price drop due to his IL stint, but he has 10 home runs, 56 total R+RBI, and a .324 average across 39 games this year, so it’s pretty easy to be intrigued by him at this mid-tier price. His 10.1 DK ppg average is 4^th best amongst all OFs but he is the 30^th priced outfielder. 

Grichuk has been pretty bad this year, hence the cheap price, but he still has 50 total R+RBI across 52 games of action and this is a Coors Field game against a bad pitcher in Pilkington, so there is reason to have interest in Grichuk. 

Duvall is hot right now, hitting .297 with FIVE home runs and 21 total R+RBI over his last 10 games. He has crushed Fedde in his career too, going 7-15 (.467) with two bombs against him.  

Duran is back with the Sox today and in the three games that he has played this season he has hit leadoff and performed well, averaging 7.7 DK points per game. Kaprielian has struggled mightily this season as well. 

Harris has swatted home runs in back-to-back games and he has now scored double-digit DK points in five of his past seven games as he has his totals for the year up to a .317 average with two home runs, two steals, and 20 total R+RBI in 17 games. This rookie means business! 

Gonzalez has been way too good to be priced this cheap at Coors Field. He is hitting .385 with NINE doubles through his first 16 games in the big leagues and today he faces Gomber, who has a 6.21 ERA and 1.59 WHIP at home this year.
