Willi Castro went 2-for-4 with two solo homers and a walk in the Twins’ 10-3 win over the Athletics on Tuesday.
Castro drew a walk in the second inning, then took Jacob Lopez deep for a solo homer in the fourth. He went yard once again in the sixth, slugging his second homer of the game off Lopez. The versatile 28-year-old is slashing .261/.346/.457 with six homers, 25 runs scored, 12 RBI, and three steals across 156 plate appearances.
Trevor Larnach went 3-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored against the Athletics on Tuesday.
Larnach led off the top of the sixth inning with a game-tying solo homer off Jacob Lopez. He then knocked a base hit to start the seventh and scored on a bases loaded hit batter. Larnach collected his third hit of the night with a base hit in the eighth. The 28-year-old outfielder is hitting .263/.328/.429 with nine homers, 33 runs scored, and 30 RBI across 248 plate appearances.
Jacob Lopez allowed five runs with nine strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings in a loss against the Twins on Tuesday.
Grant Holman served as the opener against the Twins, tossing a scoreless first and recording one out in the second inning before Lopez took over. Lopez held Minnesota off the board into the fourth before Willi Castro took him deep for a solo homer. Trevor Larnach later tied the game with a solo homer to lead off the sixth. Two batters later, Castro would put the Twins ahead with his second home run. Lopez allowed two more runners to reach before he was relieved on the mound. Both inherited runners would come in to score. On the bright side, he struck out nine batters on 17 whiffs. The 27-year-old left-hander ends the day with a 7.20 ERA, 1.75 WHIP, and a 26/10 K/BB ratio across 20 innings.
Manny Machado went 4-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Padres to a 3-2 win over the Giants on Tuesday.
Despite collecting three hits on the day, Machado stepped into the box in the ninth inning with the Padres still searching for their first runs. Down by two with two outs and the bases loaded, he knocked his fourth hit of the game to drive in two and tie the game. The 32-year-old third baseman is hitting an outstanding .315/.380/.489 with seven homers, 40 runs scored, 29 RBI, and seven steals across 245 plate appearances.
Heliot Ramos went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer against the Padres on Tuesday.
Ramos knocked in the only runs of the game on Tuesday, taking Ryan Bergert deep for a two-run blast to center field in the third inning. The 25-year-old outfielder is having a stellar season at the plate, slashing .293/.358/.493 with 11 homers, 39 runs scored, 31 RBI, and five steals across 257 plate appearances.
Jeremiah Estrada tossed a clean tenth inning to record the save against the Giants on Tuesday.
After the Padres tied the game in the ninth and scored the go-ahead run in the tenth, Estrada was summoned to close things out. A sacrifice bunt moved the runner on second before two groundouts ended the game with Estrada’s second save of the season.
