White Sox transferred LHP Fraser Ellard to the 60-day injured list.
The procedural move frees up a spot on Chicago’s 40-man roster for veteran southpaw Tyler Anderson. Ellard hit the injured list back in early May with a lat strain. There is not timetable for his return.
Jung Hoo Lee (back) remains out of the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against Atlanta.
Giants manager Bob Melvin divulged earlier this weekend that Lee has been dealing with some back tightness, so it doesn’t come as a total surprise that he’s getting some extra time off to prevent it from becoming a more serious concern. It’ll be Daniel Johnson patrolling center field on Sunday for the second straight contest. Fantasy managers should anticipate the 26-year-old center fielder being ready for Tuesday’s series opener against the Rockies at Coors Field.
Jordan Walker (wrist) will require a minor league rehab assignment.
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol told reporters that Walker has made progress in his recovery from wrist irritation as he’s been able to resume hitting and lift weights without any issues. However, he’s going to require some rehab contest to get back up to speed before returning to St. Louis’ lineup. The 23-year-old corner outfielder has been out since late May.
Orioles designated RHP Matt Bowman for assignment.
Bowman has been jettisoned from Baltimore’s 40-man roster to make room for fellow reliever Scott Blewett, who will join the club’s active roster for Sunday’s series finale against the Athletics. The well-traveled 34-year-old reliever has pitched to a respectable 4.57 ERA across 21 2/3 innings (18 appearances) this season in the majors.
Ronny Mauricio is at DH and batting sixth on Sunday against the Rockies.
Mauricio has made an immediate impact for New York since returning to the majors earlier this week, going 3-for-16 with one homer and one steal through four games. He crushed a 456-foot homer on Saturday against the Rockies for his first long ball since his debut campaign back in 2023. The power/speed combo upside gives the 24-year-old former top prospect some intrigue for fantasy purposes, especially in deeper mixed leagues. It’ll be interesting to see if he stick around in a couple weeks once Mark Vientos is ready to return from the injured list.
Denzel Clarke (shoulder) is back in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Orioles.
It’s astonishing that Clarke is back in the lineup after missing only one contest with a left shoulder contusion. It didn’t look good when he slammed full-speed into the left-center field wall during Friday’s showdown, but the 25-year-old rookie sensation somehow managed to avoid serious injury. He’s back in center field and batting ninth during Sunday’s series finale at Sutter Health Park.
