Yimi García, who was placed on the IL on Saturday, received a cortisone shot for his right shoulder impingement.
García will rest for a few days before he resumes throwing. He’ll be eligible to return on June 7, and the Jays would surely love to have him back then.
Blue Jays placed RHP Yimi Garcia on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement.
Garcia will miss the rest of May with the shoulder issue, and there’s no guarantee that he’ll be ready when he’s eligible to be activated, with shoulder issues usually taking a longer stint on the injured list than the minimum time. Garcia was a high-leverage option for Toronto, so he’ll be missed by the Blue Jays more than than the scarce few that roster him in fantasy leagues.

With Jeff Hoffman unavailable on Thursday, Garcia stepped into the closer’s role and filled in admirably, retiring all three hitters that he faced in order including punchouts of Trevor Story and Triston Casas. On the season, Garcia has fired 14 shutout innings with a 0.71 WHIP and an 18/4 K/BB ratio.
