Kyle Farmer finished 0-for-3 with a strikeout as the Rockies’ first basemen on Saturday.
Now that the Rockies have stopped giving Nick Martini at-bats, we can move on to complaining about how they continue to play Farmer so much. The 34-year-old hit .362/.404/.532 in his first 15 games with the team. Since then, he’s come in at .178/.210/.287 in 32 appearances. He has zero upside, and he’s not even a particularly good defender. Especially following the nearly-as-pointless Orlando Arcia signing, there’s just no reason for Farmer to be on the roster.
Kyle Farmer is on the bench for Monday’s game against the Rangers.
New Rockies interim manager Warren Schaffer has opted against reworking the lineup in his first game since replacing Bud Black. The top six spots are all the same as usual (CF Brenton Doyle, LF Jordan Beck, 3B Ryan McMahon, C Hunter Goodman, 1B Michael Toglia and RF Mickey Moniak). Farmer is sitting in favor of Alan Trejo, but Black was already doing that at least half of the time anyway.
Kyle Farmer is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday’s game versus the Royals.
Farmer has been an everyday option for the Rockies — and one of the few effective hitters for Colorado in 2025 — but he’ll get a day of rest against the Royals. Aaron Schunk is starting at shortstop with Adael Amador lined up next to him at second base.
Kyle Farmer went 3-for-4 with two doubles in a loss to the Padres on Friday.
Farmer was responsible for all three hits for the Rockies in another ugly offensive performance for the Rockies. He can’t be traded until June, but the 34-year-old will definitely be a potential target due to his versatility this summer.
