José Berrios struck out nine over six innings while allowing two runs to the Angels on Wednesday while not picking up a decision.

Berrios was able to generate 18 whiffs over 89 pitches while allowing five hits. He also issued five walks, but those free passes were left on base as both runs allowed were solo homers. This makes three-of-four outings being quality starts, and he’s lowered his ERA from 5.02 to 3.86 in the process. He gets the Rays next week.

José Berríos logged a quality start in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Thursday night, surrendering two runs on seven hits over his 6 2/3 innings.

Berríos racked up eight strikeouts on the evening while issuing only one free pass. The only blemish on his day was a two-run double off the bat of Alex Bregman in the fifth inning. The 30-year-old hurler got 13 swings and misses on 88 pitches on the night — five each on his sinker and changeup — while posting a strong CSW of 34 percent. Still 1-1 on the season, he’ll bring a 3.98 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and a 36/16 K/BB ratio (40 2/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Angels in Los Angeles.

José Berríos turned in 5 1/3 scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Yankees on Friday.

The Jays took a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth to put Berríos in line for the win when he departed, but it disappeared in the seventh. The team did end up winning anyway to improve to 4-2 in Berríos’s outings this season. José himself, though, is just 1-1 with a 4.24 ERA. His next start will come against the Red Sox, which is also the team his lone win is against.

José Berríos yielded three runs in six-plus innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Mariners.

Berríos could have been pulled up 3-2 after six innings, but he was left in to start the seventh and gave up a homer to Ben Williamson before being removed. That his pitch count was so low likely factored into him remaining in the game — he wound up at 82 on the day — but he was far from dominant in striking out three and walking four. He’s 1-1 with a 5.02 ERA through five starts, and he doesn’t rate as a very good play against the Yankees next week.
