Santander will be shut down from baseball activities for at least the next week after receiving the injection to address inflammation in his left shoulder. The 30-year-old big-ticket free agent acquisition for Toronto hit the shelf last week and is likely to be sidelined until mid-to-late June.

Santander will be out for at least a week-plus while recovering. The 30-year-old has been replaced on the active roster by Alan Roden. Santander’s first season with the Blue Jays has seen him limited by injuries, but also limited success as seen in a .577 OPS.

While he suggested this in a positive sense because he believes it’s helping him to make more contact, the Blue Jays didn’t sign him to be a contact hitter, and that’s certainly not why fantasy managers drafted him. He has hit at least 28 home runs in each of the last three seasons and is coming off a 44-home-run breakout. In 2025, his HR/FB rate is the lowest it’s been since 2018. If he’s not healthy enough to get back to that peak power production, he’s going to lose a lot of fantasy value.

Both hits were singles, but one was a nice liner and the other was a 105-mph grounder. It’s the first time this season that he’s reached base safely four times in a game, and it raised his OBP from .270 to .286. Santander didn’t start the previous two games because of continued issues with his hip.
