2025 Player Outlook

Chapman is coming off his best performance since his early days in Oakland. He trimmed his strikeout rate to 24.4 percent and slugged 27 home runs while playing elite defense at the hot corner. The performance earned him a contract extension late in the season, and he should be locked in as the Giants regular third baseman for the foreseeable future.

Chapman will undergo further testing and evaluation later this week to determine his exact recovery timetable after landing on the injured list ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Rockies. The 32-year-old defensive wizard suffered the injury during Sunday’s game against Atlanta when he dove back into first base on a pickoff attempt. There should be an update on his status and long-term outlook at some point later this week.

Chapman was hurt jamming his hand into first base while diving back on a pickoff attempt Sunday. It shouldn’t be a long absence, but it could still be a costly one for the Giants, as Chapman has again easily been their best player this year. Casey Schmitt and the newly recalled Christian Koss will fill in at third base.

Chapman jammed his hand on first base while diving back on a pickoff attempt during Sunday’s victory over the Braves. It sounds like he was fortunate to have avoided any significant injuries and should be considered day-to-day. Fantasy managers should check on his status prior to Tuesday’s series opener against the Rockies in Colorado just to be on the safe side.
