2025 Player Outlook
After a dominant year in the KBO in 2023, Fedde was a solid arm for Chicago and St. Louis in 2024. Sure, his numbers were better with the White Sox than they were with the Cardinals, but outside of a spike in his ERA and reduction in his ground ball rate, he wasn’t all that different on the mound. The strikeout rate from the KBO was never going to translate to the MLB, but he can very easily replicate last year’s 21.2 percent mark this season. He’s locked in the St. Louis rotation and should be in line for 175+ IP yet again in 2024 with a sub-1.30 WHIP. He’s a fine target outside the top 80 starters, especially if your front load your rotation with high strikeout arms.
Player News
Erick Fedde threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings against the Phillies in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.
Fedde, coming off a shutout of the Nationals, kept his scoreless streak intact, but he wasn’t allowed to go very deep into this one. The surprising thing was that the Cardinals brought in Steven Matz to replace him in a scoreless tie, rather than going to their late-game relievers. It worked out initially, as Matz stranded both runners he inherited in the sixth. Matz, though, gave up two runs in the seventh in the eventual 2-1 loss. Fedde ended this one with three strikeouts and four walks. He has his ERA down to 3.44, but we’d still suggest staying away in mixed leagues. He’ll face the Tigers next.
Erick Fedde tossed his first career shutout against his former team as the Cardinals crushed the Nationals 10-0 on Friday.
Fedde’s shutout came with a whopping 15 hard-hit balls allowed. Most of them were grounders, though, and two were double-play balls from Nathaniel Lowe. Fedde wound up allowing six hits, walking none and striking out eight in his first ever complete game. He came into the night with a 4.78 ERA and a 21/21 K/BB in 37 2/3 innings. We still wouldn’t at all recommend picking him up in mixed leagues, and he’ll be a particularly poor play with a road start in Philly coming up.
Erick Fedde allowed three runs in five innings and got the win in the Cardinals’ 6-5 victory over the Mets on Sunday.
Fedde gave up six hits, walked five and struck out four. He had allowed two runs through five innings and was pulled after letting the first two batters reach in the sixth inning, with one of the inherited runners scoring against Kyle Leahy. While the win was Fedde’s second of the season, it’s been an uneven start to the year for the 32-year-old right-hander. He’ll take a 4.78 ERA into his start next weekend against the Nationals on the road, though his 5.62 xFIP suggests he’s best left on fantasy benches for now.
Saturday’s game between the Mets and Cardinals has been postponed due to inclement weather.
Steady rain in the forecast throughout Saturday evening in the St. Louis are thanks to a stalled low pressure system made this a relatively easy decision. It’ll be made up on Sunday as a split doubleheader. Saturday’s original starters – Tylor Megill and Erick Fedde – will presumably be pushed back to take the ball at some point during the twin bill.
