Dominic Smith went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in a win over the Padres on Thursday.
So this is happening, huh? Smith was signed earlier this week and has started two straight games at first base while going 3-for-8. Giants signed INF/OF Dominic Smith to a one-year contract.
Yankees released 1B Dominic Smith.
With Ben Rice performing so well and Giancarlo Stanton coming back at some point, Smith figured to chance with the Yankees was forthcoming and opted out of his minor league deal. He was hitting .255/.333/.448 in 45 games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Smith opted out of his deal with the Yankees last week in the hopes of getting a major league spot elsewhere, but that never materialized. He hit .297/.289/.568 this spring to make a case for a spot on the Yankees bench, but he’ll head to Triple-A for now.
