2025 Player Outlook

Despite a reduction in his ground ball rate last season, his home run issue remained stable, and he posted his second straight season with 30+ starts and a sub-3.90 ERA. His 4.16 FIP was his highest in the last half-decade, and his 27.6 percent strikeout rate was the second-lowest of his career. Despite the drop in his strikeout rate, his O-Swing% and swinging strike rate remained on par with past years, and he still boasted a healthy 87th percentile whiff rate. Slowly but surely, he’s ramped up usage on his changeup, and it was a ground ball and swing-and-miss machine last year (61.2% GB%, 36.9% whiff rate). Peralta is a tried-and-true fantasy starter and is more than capable of being your SP2 this season. If you attack starting pitching early, and Peralta is your team’s SP3, you’ll be in a great spot for 2025, as Peralta will give you solid numbers across the board, and his WHIP will drop below 1.20 if he can shave a few percentage points off his walk rate.

Freddy Peralta threw six shutout innings in a no-decision against the Padres on Sunday.

The right-hander allowed just one hit while walking two and striking out three, but the Brewers couldn’t muster a single run while he was in the game. Peralta wasn’t as dominant as he was last time out, posting a 21 percent whiff rate and 24 percent CSW on the day. He got a handful of whiffs on his changeup, but the four-seam command was inconsistent all day, which limited some of the strikeout upside. Still, Peralta deserved better and will now take a 2.69 ERA into a showdown against the Cardinals next week.

Freddy Peralta logged a quality start in a losing effort against the Reds on Tuesday evening, surrendering three runs on seven hits over his six-plus innings of work.

On the plus side for fantasy managers, Peralta racked up nine strikeouts on the night while issuing three walks. He served up a two-run homer to Tyler Stephenson in the fifth inning, then returned for the seventh where he allowed the first two hitters to reach before turning the ball over to the bullpen and one of them came around to score. The 28-year-old hurler generated a whopping 20 swings and misses on 103 pitches on the night — 14 of those on his fastball — while posting a strong CSW of 35 percent. He’ll tote an impressive 2.92 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a 75/29 K/BB ratio (71 innings) into Monday’s tilt against the Braves.

Peralta allowed six hits, walked three and struck out six. He was in line for a loss when he left, but the Brewers came back and won the game in 10 innings. Before giving up three runs today, Peralta had a 0.75 ERA (2 ER over 24 IP) in four home starts this season. He’ll make his next start in Cincinnati, probably on Monday.
