Diamondbacks transferred RHP Corbin Burnes to the 60-day injured list.
Diamondbacks’ manager Torey Lovullo announced Friday that right-hander Corbin Burnes will undergo season-ending Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery.
Ugh. You knew that it was going to be bad when Burnes was sent for a second opinion and now we get the unfortunate diagnosis. The start 30-year-old right-hander will miss the remainder of the 2025 season and most of the 2026 campaign as well while recovering from the procedure. It’s just an absolutely brutal blow to both the Diamondbacks and to fantasy managers. Ryne Nelson should now have extra runway to stick around in the club’s starting rotation.
Diamondbacks placed RHP Corbin Burnes on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 2, with right elbow inflammation.
Burnes, who was hurt during his start Sunday, is getting a second opinion on his elbow after initial tests failed to produce a definitive diagnosis. Ryne Nelson is taking his spot in the Arizona rotation. Burnes is 3-2 with a 2.66 ERA in 11 turns this season. He missed one start last month due to shoulder inflammation.
Initial tests on Corbin Burnes’ elbow were inconclusive, and the right-hander is going for a second opinion.
Not ideal. Burnes, who was injured during his start Sunday, figures to be placed on the injured list prior to tonight’s game. Ryne Nelson is the obvious choice to replace him in Arizona’s rotation.
