Red Sox released RHP Vladimir Gutierrez.
Boston cleared room on the Triple-A roster for recently promoted Zach Penrod by releasing Gutierrez. The 28-year-old has bounced around organizations over the past few years, and now will be free to sign with a new club — all but assuredly on a minor-league pact.
Red Sox sent RHP Vladimir Gutierrez outright to Triple-A Worcester.
Gutierrez was designated for assignment on Wednesday, but he cleared waivers and accepted his assignment to Triple-A Worcester. He was acquired from the Brewers in April and made one appearance for the Marlins earlier in the season, allowing three runs on three hits in four innings. He figures to serve as organizational pitching depth.

The Res Sox needed to free up a spot on their 40-man roster for Dominic Smith on Wednesday and unfortunately Gutierrez was the odd-man out. He could once again attract interest on waivers.

Gutierrez provides the Red Sox with some extra organizational pitching depth at Triple-A Worcester. The 28-year-old righty was designated for assignment earlier this week by the Brewers. His lone appearance in the big leagues this season came with the Marlins a couple weeks ago.
