White Sox designated RHP Bryse Wilson for assignment.
Instead of getting another chance in the rotation with Jonathan Cannon down, Wilson is being bumped from the White Sox roster here. The veteran was 0-2 with a 6.95 ERA in five starts and 14 relief appearances. He’ll likely clear waivers.
Filling in for Jonathan Cannon, Bryse Wilson gave up four runs — two earned — in four-plus innings Saturday versus the Rangers.
Wilson, who lost his rotation spot as a result of the Adrian Houser signing, was making his first appearance in nine days. He could fill in again next week if Cannon requires an IL stint. If not, he’ll pitch in middle relief.
Bryse Wilson was tagged for seven runs in 5 1/3 innings by the Reds in Thursday’s loss.
Wilson gave up runs in every inning he pitched, other than the second. He’s sporting a 6.00 ERA and a 19/14 K/BB ratio in 33 innings on the season, and if he remains in the rotation, he’ll face the Mariners next time out.
Bryse Wilson pitched well in a no-decision on Friday night, limiting the Marlins to one run on three hits over his five frames.
Wilson issued a pair of walks on the evening while recording only one strikeout. The lone tally against him came in the opening inning as Jesús Sánchez smacked a run-scoring single after Xavier Edwards had walked and stolen second base. He settled in nicely afterwards though and kept the Marlins off the board the rest of his night. Wilson got just seven whiffs on 83 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 20 percent. He’ll try to build off of this strong start as he totes a 4.88 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and a 16/13 K/BB ratio (27 2/3 innings) into Thursday’s matchup against the Reds in Cincinnati.
