Cristian Javier (elbow) threw off of a mound on Friday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery.
The 28-year-old right-hander threw 15 pitches during the session at the team’s spring training facility. He’s not expected to be ready to rejoin the Astros until around the All-Star break at the earliest, but it’s still a major hurdle to clear in his recovery process. He’ll continue to ramp up down in Florida before eventually heading out on a minor league rehab assignment.
Astros transferred RHP Cristian Javier from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list.
Javier, who had Tommy John surgery last June, is targeting a July return this season.
Astros placed RHP Cristian Javier on the 15-day injured list after Tommy John surgery.

Cristian Javier (elbow) told reporters on Saturday that he’s on track to return to the Astros in the second half of the 2025 season.
When the 27-year-old right-hander underwent Tommy John surgery, the initial expectation was that he would be able to return at the end of July in 2025. So far at least, it seems like that timetable is on track as long as he avoids any setbacks. How effective he’ll be upon his return remains to be seen though. Fantasy managers in redraft leagues are better off waiting to see what he looks like when he returns rather than trying to stash him now.
