2025 Player Outlook
Bednar went just 23-for-30 in save opportunities last year, not to mention a 3-8 record, 5.77 ERA (4.80 FIP), and the second-lowest strikeout rate of his career (22.1%). The team is optimistic that he’ll rebound in 2025, but they’ve also stated that he is not guaranteed the job to begin the season. However, if you look at the rest of the bullpen, it’s hard to fathom Bednar not being the leader in the clubhouse for the job. If Bednar can return to his 2021-2023 form, it’s not crazy to think that he reaches 40 saves for the first time in his career, thanks to a three-headed monster in the rotation and an offense that should be able to do enough to put some runs on the board. I love the value, and upside, for Bednar at his current price.
Player News
David Bednar protected a one-run lead in the bottom of the 10th for his 10th save Friday against the Cubs.
Needing to strand the automatic runner, Bednar got Ian Happ to ground out, Kyle Tucker to pop out and Seiya Suzuki to ground out to end it. He’s up to nine straight scoreless appearances now, and in spite of his Triple-A exile in April, he stands poised to be one of the most popular players at this year’s trade deadline.
David Bednar hurled a scoreless ninth to pick up a save against the Marlins on Wednesday.
David Bednar tossed a perfect ninth inning with one strikeout to earn the save against the Phillies on Saturday.
Bednar got the call to close out the game in the top of the ninth with a one-run lead. He induced two groundouts and struck out one batter in a clean frame to secure the win and lock down his eighth save of the season.
David Bednar was credited with a win after striking out the side in a tie game in the ninth Friday against the Phillies.
Bednar fanned JT Realmuto, Edmundo Sosa and Bryson Stott in a 4-4 game before the Pirates walked it off. Incredibly enough, it’s the first time since May 7, 2022 that Bednar has struck out all three batters he’s faced. He’s now turned in six straight scoreless outings.
