2025 Player Outlook
Things may not have worked out for Bart in San Francisco, but he may have found a home in Pittsburgh. In 80 games with the Pirates last season, he slashed .265/.337/.462 with 13 home runs (two more than he hit with the Giants across four seasons). He posted a quality 9.4 percent barrel rate, but there could be more power potential with Bart if he can trade some of those ground balls (47.5% ground ball rate) for line drives and fly balls. There’s some swing-and-miss in his game, but there’s optimism that he can cut down on his strikeout rate in 2025. Endy Rodriguez likely gets in the mix at some point, but Bart should be the primary catcher for the Pirates in 2025, providing fantasy managers with some pop (12-16 HR) and an okay average for the position (.240ish).
Player News
Joey Bart (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday.
Bart has been on the concussion IL since May 28th. Since then, Henry Davis has become the starting catcher and is hitting .222 with three home runs, six RBI, five runs scored, and an 11/1 K/BB ratio. He will likely shift to a backup role when Bart comes back.
Pirates placed C Joey Bart on the seven-day concussion injured list.
Joey Bart went 2-for-5 with two RBI in a 4-3 win over Atlanta on Sunday.
Bart should have been 3-for-5. With runners on second and third and one out in the ninth inning, he laced a groundball in the hole at short that Nick Allen had to dive to stop. With the game on the line, Allen got up and threw home, too late to get the runner, but the official scoring ruled it a fielder’s choice, even though there was little chance Allen would have even thrown Bart out at first base. Still, Bart is hitting .291/.411/.379 on the season with 10 RBI and has been a rock-solid option in two-catcher leagues this year.
Joey Bart (back) is starting behind the dish for the Pirates on Thursday and hitting clean-up.
Bart had missed five games with a back injury, which allowed Henry Davis to make four starts behind the plate. Bart will now return to a near-everyday role and a .275/.370/.425 slash line. Henry Davis will go back to being a backup.
