2025 Player Outlook
The team wants to get Nolan Gorman a bunch of at-bats in 2025, and their president of Baseball Operations, John Mozeliak, mentioned the number 600! That could be encouraging for fantasy purposes, but there are a few problems with Gorman’s offensive profile. First and foremost, he’s struck out 34.1 percent of the time at the big-league level, and has a career .222 average, low-lighted by last year’s .203 mark. Additionally, he doesn’t hit left-handed pitching well at all. The St. Louis infield is rather crowded to begin the year, but if he were to win a job out of camp, he’ll play on the large side of a platoon, whether the majority of his ABs will come against right-handed pitching. The power is great, and he barrels up a ton of balls with a high fly ball rate, but the quantity of contact is underwhelming. He’s an upside pick in the later rounds.
Player News
Nolan Gorman is making his third straight start on Wednesday against the Blue Jays.
Gorman has started four of the last five games for the Cardinals, playing third base, second base, or designated hitter. In his last 10 games, Gorman is hitting .435 with two home runs, five RBI, and a 7/2 K/BB ratio. With Brendan Donovan dealing with toe discomfort, there could be some extra playing time for Gorman in the immediate future.
Nolan Gorman went 2-for-4 with the only extra-base hit of the game Saturday as the Cardinals held off the Dodgers 2-1.
Gorman’s extra-base hit was a 111.6-mph double that bounced over the wall in right to lead off the bottom of the ninth in a 1-1 game. Gorman was then removed for a pinch-runner, who came around to score on a Nolan Arenado flyball single that would have been a routine out if the Dodgers hadn’t been using a five-man infield in a do-or-die situation. Gorman was starting for just the second time this week, as Arenado had the day off before his pinch-hitting appearance. He’s gone 7-for-16 with a homer in his four starts over the last two weeks, but the Cardinals don’t seem that interested in finding more playing time for him.
Nolan Gorman is making his first start in a week Tuesday ss the Cardinals’ DH against the Royals.
Gorman last started last Tuesday when he was a late insertion for an ailing Brendan Donovan. He gets to play tonight because Iván Herrera is starting at catcher. Things don’t figure to get any better for him when Jordan Walker comes off the IL, something that figures to happen within the next week.
Nolan Gorman delivered a go-ahead three-run double in the eighth inning on Tuesday night, propelling the Cardinals to a 10-4 victory over the Braves.
Gorman wasn’t even in the Cardinals’ original starting lineup on Tuesday, he was a late addition after Brendan Donovan was scratched due to soreness in his ribs. He made the most of the opportunity though, breaking a 4-4 tie in the eighth inning with his three-run double to right off of Enyel De Los Santos. That would be his lone hit in five at-bats on the evening. For the season, the 24-year-old slugger is now hitting .250/.317/.444 with one home run and seven RBI through his first 41 plate appearances.
