2025 Player Outlook
Thomas' numbers in 2024 were inflated by his hot start with Washington, and the wheels came off a bit once getting traded to Cleveland. As a member of the Guardians, he slashed just .209/.267/.390 with seven home runs and four stolen bases. However, over his final 91 ABs in the month of September, he hit seven home runs with a .560 SLG. Thomas should return to being a solid power/speed guy, and while I don't envision him repeating his 25/20 campaign from 2023, he should be a 20/20 guy this year, who could get to 20/25 or maybe even 20/30. Great OF3 target in 15-teamers, or OF4 in 12-teamers.
Player News
Lane Thomas went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer in the Guardians’ 11-2 rout of the Reds on Wednesday.
The homer off lefty Joe La Sorsa went just 330 feet, but he hit to the perfect spot down the right field line. It was his first homer in 75 plate appearances this season, and it doubled his RBI total for the year. Thomas probably ought to be limited to starts against lefties for the most part, but given his hot start here since coming off the IL — he also reached three times on Monday before sitting Tuesday — regular playing time is a possibility.
Lane Thomas is starting in centerfield and batting leadoff for the Guardians on Wednesday against the Reds.
Thomas returned from the IL and Monday and went 1-for-5 with a stolen base before being on the bench on Tuesday. It seems that the Guardians were just being cautious with Thomas in his first few games off the IL.
Lane Thomas is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Reds.
Thomas takes a seat after going 1-for-5 with a stolen base on Monday in his return from the injured list after missing two weeks with plantar fasciitis. It’ll be a red-hot Nolan Jones taking over in center field on Tuesday evening.
Guardians activated OF Lane Thomas from the 10-day injured list.
Will Wilson was demoted. The Guardians are bringing Thomas back from his quick two-week absence due to plantar fasciitis without first sending him on a rehab assignment. His last stay on the roster saw him go 0-for-14 over four games. Before that, he spent a month on the IL with a wrist injury. He’s hit just .186/.242/.325 in 70 games overall since the Guardians acquired him the Nationals last summer, and while the team might give him another chance to play regularly in center field, he’s probably only going to prove useful against lefties.
