2025 Player Outlook

Paddack's numbers from 2024 weren't overwhelming by any means, as he had a 4.99 ERA and 1.39 WHIP across 17 starts, and arm issues ended his season early. The Twins increased the usage on his slider immensely, and none of his other pitches had a higher whiff rate than his slider registered (25.4%). He'll need to reduce some of the hard contact that he allows if he wants to drive his ERA down, and at this point, Paddack isn't a guy who is going to rack up a ton of strikeouts. He'll continue to command the strike zone and attempt to induce more ground balls to offset the risks of the hard contact he allows (13th percentile in 2024), but his fantasy value is likely limited to AL-only setups.

Paddack left with a one-run lead that was later blown. He’s allowed one or two runs in six straight starts, but while he won the first two of those, he’s 0-2 in the last four. He’s just 2-5 with a 3.53 ERA overall. He’s likely to make his next start Friday against the Astros.

Chris Paddack delivered another outstanding performance in a tough-luck no-decision against the Mariners on Sunday afternoon, allowing just one run on four hits over eight strong frames.

Paddack racked up 10 strikeouts on the day while issuing only one base on balls. The only blemish on his night came on a one-out solo homer off the bat of Cal Raleigh in the seventh inning. The 29-year-old right-hander got 17 swings and misses on 110 pitches in the ballgame, posting a CSW of 32 percent. He’ll carry an impressive 3.58 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and a 50/20 K/BB ratio (65 1/3 innings) into Friday’s matchup against the Blue Jays.

He also struck out five and didn’t walk a batter while posting a 22 percent whiff rate and 28 percent CSW on the day. Most fantasy managers have been counting down the days til Paddack is out of the rotation and both Zebby Matthews and David Festa are starting, but the truth of the matter is that Paddack has been rock solid since his poor first start of the season. Nothing is exciting about what he’s doing, but he hasn’t been bad and remains deep league relevant in a start in Seattle this weekend.

Chris Paddack surrendered two runs in 5 1/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Guardians.

Paddack allowed seven hits, walked two and struck out two today. He actually left with a shutout intact in the sixth, but the bases were loaded and Louis Varland allowed two of the three runners to score before finishing the inning. While Paddack has a 2.22 ERA over his last eight starts, it’s difficult to feel much excitement about what he’s doing. His 16% strikeout is particularly discouraging, and he’s neither excelled at keeping the ball on the ground nor preventing walks. Odds are that he’s in for a downturn. His next start will come in Tampa against the Rays.
