Astros claimed RHP Jason Alexander off waivers from the Athletics.
Alexander will head to Triple-A Sugar Land as extra organizational relief depth for Houston’s overtaxed bullpen. The 32-year-old journeyman was jettisoned from the Athletics’ roster earlier this week after allowing a staggering 13 runs — 12 earned — over six innings of work over four appearances.
Athletics designated RHP Jason Alexander for assignment.
The 32-year-old hurler turned in an abysmal outing against the Dodgers on Thursday night, giving up nine runs on seven hits and four walks in just 2 1/3 innings. It was bad enough that the team decided to cut bait with him immediately. He has flashed some upside in the past, so there could be another team willing to take a chance on him on waivers.
Athletics recalled RHP Jason Alexander from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Alexander provides the Athletics with some extra long relief depth in the wake of veteran lefty T.J. McFarland hitting the injured list with a groin strain. The 32-year-old righty struggled in three relief outings earlier this year in the big leagues.
Athletics optioned RHP Jason Alexander to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Alexander will head back to Triple-A for now, but the 32-year-old will likely make the trip from Vegas to wherever the A’s are playing multiple times in 2025.
