2025 Player Outlook
Many likely tabbed Vaughn as somewhat of a breakout player in 2024, but that ultimately didn't come to fruition. However, his numbers weren't far off from 2023, though a .297 OBP didn't do fantasy managers any favors. He did manage to post the second-highest barrel rate of his career (9.3%), and while his struggles against breaking pitches did improve slightly, he has yet to have a significant walk rate to boost his value in OBP leagues. I expect Vaughn to be better than last year's .246 average, and his impressive final month of the season might have some fantasy managers thinking Vaughn is more of a value than he really is. Vaughn is a fine target at his current price, especially in leagues that emphasize batting average over OBP, but at his ceiling in 2025, he'll hit .260ish with 25 home runs, but a .245 average and 18-22 home runs is a more reasonable projection.
Player News
Brewers acquired 1B Andrew Vaughn from the White Sox for RHP Aaron Civale and cash considerations.
Vaughn will remain in the minors and report to Triple-A Nashville. If he starts tearing it up there, perhaps the Brewers would consider making some room for him by playing Christian Yelich in the outfield, but they’ll cross that bridge when they come to it. Vaughn hit just .189/.218/.314 in 48 games for the White Sox before being demoted, though his exit velocity numbers were actually a little better than his career norms. He’d hit .211/.328/.351 in 15 games for Triple-A Charlotte. Given his current $5.85 million salary, he’ll need to experience a real breakthrough to avoid being non-tendered this winter.
The White Sox and Brewers are swapping Andrew Vaughn and Aaron Civale, according to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers.
Civale gets his wish, maybe? Going to the White Sox probably wasn’t what he had in mind, but at least he’ll be back in the rotation, and he could wind up with a contender again later this summer. Vaughn figures to remain in the minors for now, at least unless Christian Yelich requires an IL stint.
Andrew Vaughn went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run, and four RBI for Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.
Vaughn is hitting .261 in 11 games at Triple-A with two home runs, 11 RBI, and a 9/8 K/BB ratio. There’s a chance the former 3rd overall pick from the 2019 MLB Draft gets another chance with the White Sox this summer or perhaps a fresh start with a new team after the trade deadline.
Andrew Vaughn went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored for Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.
Vaughn was off to a terrible start to the season for the White Sox, but he has been a solid hitter over his last two MLB seasons. He will likely never live up to expectations as the number one overall draft pick in 2019; however, he might emerge as a solid first baseman for any team that could be able to pry him away from the White Sox.
