Moreno has improved his walk rate in each of the last two seasons, posting a very healthy 11.7 percent mark last season. His strikeout rate also checked in at an impressive 14.8 percent, giving him a strong base of plate skills from which to grow his offensive production. The power has yet to show up, but Moreno may grow into a bit more as he enters his age 25 season.

Moreno’s only hit of the game brought three runs in as he took Trent Thornton deep in the sixth inning. It was the fifth home run of the season for Moreno, tying his total from last season in half the plate appearances. The 25-year-old backstop has hit the ball hard with more consistency this year, significantly raising his hard-hit rate. Moreno is slashing .277/.333/.428 with the five homers, 28 runs scored, and 20 RBI across 180 plate appearances.

It’s at least a positive sign that he hasn’t been placed on the injured list. It’ll be Jose Herrera handling the catching duties on Monday night in his absence.

Moreno is getting some extra time off to rest and recover after suffering a right hand contusion during Friday’s contest. It’s an encouraging sign heading into next week that Arizona has removed emergency catcher Aramis Garcia from the active roster already. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. It’ll be Jose Herrera handling the catching duties on Sunday afternoon in his place.
