While playing shortstop for the first time, Ha-Seong Kim doubled and walked in his rehab game with Triple-A Durham on Thursday.
Kim, coming off shoulder surgery, had previously DH’d five times and played second base twice on his rehab assignment. He’s just 3-for-26 thus far with the bat, and the Rays are likely to keep him in the minors for at least another week.

Kim wasted no time getting his feet wet at DH in his Triple-A debut, recording a pair of singles before being lifted for a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning. The 29-year-old shortstop is going to require a handful of additional tune-up contests on his rehab assignment before he’s ready to make his Tampa Bay debut. He should be ready at some point in early June.

Kim was signed to a one-year deal by the Rays later this winter, but has not been able to make is debut with Tampa Bay while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. The 29-year-old has been working in the Florida Complex League, but he’ll likely need at least a handful of games before returning. He’s eligible to come off the 60-day injured list come Tuesday, but expect his activation to come closer to the early parts of June.

Kim is getting close to game action as he’s in the final stages of his lengthy rehabilitation process from offseason shoulder surgery. The widely-held expectation is that the 29-year-old middle infielder will be ready to make his season debut at some point around mid-June after spending a couple weeks ramping up in the minors.
