T.J. McConnell provided a boost off the bench with 12 points (6-of-12 FGs), nine rebounds, six assists and four steals against the Thunder on Thursday.

McConnell has been fantastic in this series, and this was arguably his best performance. He has averaged 11.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.3 steals through the first six games of the Finals, and he has scored in double figures four times. He stepped up with Tyrese Haliburton (calf) not fully healthy, which allowed them to manage Haliburton’s minutes. McConnell has been invaluable for the Pacers in this series, and they’ll need him to continue to contribute on Sunday, especially if Haliburton’s calf is still bothering him.

With Tyrese Haliburton limited due to a right calf injury and Andrew Nembhard struggling, the Pacers needed more from McConnell. Unsurprisingly, the veteran point guard stepped up, even screaming “you can’t guard me” at the Thunder players at one point. McConnell answering the call is to be expected, even with his perceived offensive limitations. With Haliburton likely to be at less than full strength for Game 6 on Thursday, the Pacers will need a performance from McConnell similar to the one they received on Monday.

Again, McConnell gave the Pacers good minutes off the bench, but he did most of his damage during the first half. The veteran point guard shot 4-of-6 from the field in the first half, scoring 10 points to help the Pacers push their lead out to as much as 20. New York’s bench was superior after halftime, helping the visitors rally for the win despite Jalen Brunson sitting for a significant stretch due to foul trouble. After outscoring their Knicks counterparts by 14 and 10 points in the first two games, the Pacers were only a plus-5 in bench points in Game 3. McConnell and the other reserves will aim to improve in Tuesday’s Game 4.

McConnell was a bright spot off the Pacers’ bench on Tuesday, electrifying the Gainbridge Fieldhouse crowd as he took over in the second half with his scoring and facilitating. He finished the game with more points than the rest of the Pacers’ bench combined and led all reserves in scoring. Expect McConnell to play an important role in the Pacers’ second round against the first-seeded Cavaliers.
