2024 Player Outlook
Stefon Diggs once again led the Bills in snaps, targets, receptions, and touchdowns making that four straight years since they acquired him via trade. However, the Bills found themselves with cap space issues and traded Diggs to Houston. The question now is how Diggs will fit in with his new teammates in a new scheme. The upside of course is that CJ Stroud is already looking like a star and Diggs might be the best pass-catcher on the team.

Rumors of a potential release swirled last week after former Patriots quarterback and current announcer Scott Zolak told reporters that a release of Diggs was on the table for the Patriots, reports that now appear to be unfounded. His new three-year, $69 million contract now seems to carry more certainty after the veteran showed up to OTAs Monday. Diggs will look to get back to his 1,000-yard ways in New England after appearing in only eight games in 2024 while with the Texans.
Patriots OC Josh McDaniels said Stefon Diggs has reported to Monday’s OTAs.
After a highly documented week that featured a boat and a pink substance that has been drawn into question, Diggs is now in the building. It’s worth noting that these are voluntary OTAs, so Diggs’ decision to report could be in part to gain some good favor with a team that was rumored to be open to cutting the 31-year-old veteran. Head coach Mike Vrabel, when questioned about the video featuring Diggs last week, seemed to downplay the video while adding that he hopes Diggs is making good decisions both on and off the field. Where things truly stand with Diggs and the Patriots at this point is anybody’s guess, but it’s a good sign to see him at OTAs after a week that featured headlines neither side probably wanted. Diggs is still recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in Week 8 last season and is unlikely to be on the playing field before training camp. A stint on the PUP list could also be in order.
Scott Zolak of 98.5 The Sports Hub said the Patriots cutting Stefon Diggs is a decision that “is on the table.”
This stems from a highly publicized video from last week that featured Stefon Diggs on a boat that featured a pink substance that has been called into question. However, Zolak says, “It’s not just the boat. There are some other things that I’ve heard that raise questions. Are you all-in here?” on the possibility of the Patriots cutting Diggs, noting that while the former Pro Bowler did sign a three-year, $69 million contract with the team this offseason that “until (Diggs) passes a full physical, he’s entitled to nothing,” which could become meaningful should the team decide to explore his release. Head coach Mike Vrabel said following the video that he has been in communication with Diggs, but where things stand between Diggs and the Patriots is anybody’s guess at this time. He continues to recover from a torn ACL he suffered last season and is unlikely to see the field until training camp at the earliest, but it goes without saying that this could be a situation to monitor in the months ahead.
Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said he has been in communication with Stefon Diggs, who was not present for the start of OTAs.
Vrabel said he is aware of the video that surfaced showing Diggs flashing a pink substance on a boat. He mentioned wanting Diggs to make smart decisions on and off the field but kept his response short. Per ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the NFL declined to comment on the video. While it might not be a great look for Diggs, it’s impossible to draw any conclusions from the short clip. Diggs is currently recovering from the torn ACL he suffered last year and would not be practicing if he were at OTAs, so it’s not much of a surprise that he’s away from the team. It’s likely this story blows over sooner rather than later, with Diggs’ ACL recovery still being the biggest driver of his 2025 outlook.
