Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz reports the Bills and Packers discussed a trade for Jaire Alexander this offseason.

With Alexander now set to be released by the Packers, the Bills could become a team to watch as Alexander begins looking for a new home. The 28-year-old vet has had back-to-back injury-riddled seasons that limited him to just 14 regular season games since 2023, but Alexander could still provide serviceable play if healthy. It’s worth noting that Buffalo did use the No. 30 overall pick on cornerback Maxwell Hairston in April, which could create too crowded a room for Alexander, who will be looking for a starting gig wherever he lands.

Packers released CB Jaire Alexander.

The Packers and Alexander hoped to find a trade partner for the veteran cornerback this offseason, but after failing to do so, Alexander, 28, will now be free to sign with any team. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the two sides also considered a restructured contract. Alexander was limited to seven games in each of the last two seasons due to injuries and seemed to be at odds with the organization late last season. Alexander is being released with two years left on his current deal. As a result, the Packers will be hit with a dead cap hit just north of $7.5 million in 2025 and 2026, but will also save just over $36.6 million in cap space over that same span, per Over The Cap.

The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman reports the Packers have offered CB Jaire Alexander a restructured deal.

Alexander’s return to Green Bay for the 2025 season is still by no means a done deal. Schneidman said the team has “proposed a restructured contract to Alexander, which tangibly demonstrates their interest in retaining the two-time All-Pro cornerback during an offseason in which they have been open to trading him.” Alexander, who reportedly wants to remain in Green Bay, has two years remaining on this current deal. He did not attend the Packers’ voluntary workouts in early May and appears unlikely to participate in any offseason activity until a new deal gets done or the Packers find a trade partner for the mercurial cornerback, who has played in just 16 games since the start of the 2023 season. Alexander, 28, was graded last year by PFF as the NFL’s eighth best cover corner in 2024.

The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman reports Packers CB Jaire Alexander did not attend the team’s voluntary workout on Friday.

Alexander participated in the Packers’ remote sessions last week, and ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported on Tuesday that Alexander and the team “continue to talk about a possible resolution” regarding Alexander’s contract dispute. The Packers reportedly explored trading Alexander earlier this offseason, but his respective $24.6 million and $27 million cap hits over the next two years loom large. The two sides are in a standoff, and it is unclear how things will unfold from here.
