Broncos signed WR Courtland Sutton to a four-year, $92 million contract extension.
Shortly after it was reported that a deal was nearing between Sutton and the Broncos, news broke of an official deal. The soon-to-be 30-year-old receiver will now be under contract with the Broncos through the 2029 season, giving him a chance to potentially retire with the team that selected him in the second round back in 2018. After battling through injuries and poor quarterback play for most of his career, Sutton turned in his best season as a pro in 2024, catching 81 passes for 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns. Sutton profiles as a fringe WR2/WR3 after finishing as a top-24 PPR receiver in 41 percent of his games last season.
Broncos HC Sean Payton said a new deal for Courtland Sutton could be completed soon.
Sutton said in April that contract negotiations were going in the “right direction,” but we haven’t heard much on the matter since. The veteran receiver is in the final year of his current deal and is coming off a season in which he totaled 81 receptions for 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns. It was the first 1,000-yard season for Sutton since 2019, but with an established offensive coordinator already in place and a young quarterback who turned in a solid rookie campaign, Sutton figures to have a few more solid years of contribution in him.
Courtland Sutton said extension talks with the Broncos are “working in the right direction.”
“I’m open and optimistic about the fact that I’ll be able to be here for the rest of my career,” Sutton added. The timeline for Sutton’s extension has been downplayed a bit by the Broncos this offseason and it sounds like they’re probably just waiting to figure out what happens in the draft to lock down a figure. Sutton was an unhappy camper last season after getting only a band-aid adjustment to his contract, but responded with one of the best seasons of his career.
Broncos HC Sean Payton said there is “no timeline” for an extension for Courtland Sutton.
Payton said he expects Sutton to be at the team’s offseason activities once they ramp up in the coming months. Sutton is coming off one of his best seasons as a pro. The soon-to-be eighth-year vet caught 81 passes for 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns, surpassing the 1,000-yard mark for just the second time in his career. He’s in the final year of a revised two-year contract that he signed last offseason and currently counts as $20.2 million toward the cap. He’ll turn 30 in October and should still have plenty to offer the Broncos if they opt to keep him for the next several seasons.
